2020 Democrat contenders

Hey, I was all set to vote for Kasich, and still think he would have been a great President.

Then, you guys decided to nominate a clown instead.
I came close to voting for Kasich during the primaries but his lead over Trump here in Ohio was so large that I voted on the Dem ticket instead and voted for Bernie to try and keep Hillary from winning Ohio. If the GOP race had been closer I would have voted Republican.

Anthony Weiner will be out of prison then. He has a great resume for the Democrat Party. Can probably lock up the millennial vote with his social media skills

Yes, lets set accusations and assumptions aside for a moment, shall we?
Bernie, God love him, is too old.
Hillary isn't qualified, other than being a woman.
Warren and some others might be a bit too divisive to bring in Independents, but ok to keep millenials interested.
Booker, some potential but he needs to reach out to middle America.
Hickenlooper, now thus far he is my favorite. Cool guy.
Plus he’s a governor, has a track record of getting things done in a purple State. Problem is I don’t think the voting public is in the mood for a pragmatic, technocratic moderate.

I think there are a lot of Democrats who are a bit smug about defeating Donald Trump in 2020. They need to slap each other and wake up. Trumps win was no fluke and despite the conventional wisdom of Trump being his own worst enemy with already a host of self inflicted wounds it would be wise to remember that you have to nominate a candidate who can actually win and in that respect Democrats look real thin on the ground.

If Dems do as last time and nominate a high ranking party insider, probably a Senator, with one notable exception, they will lose. Most of the leading Democrat Senators are women who aren’t exactly popular at the national level. Knoblocher, Harris, Gillibrand and Warren might appeal to the base but are also lightening rods. Biden is capable but to old and one could say the same about Bernie and Bros. Al Franken, given his personality and media savvy would be about the only Dem congress critter I would give a slim chance too.

Governors have a much better track record of win in but who do the Dems have?

McCaulife is too much a party insider. Hickenlooper has solid credentials and has the gravitas but isn’t well known nationally, Jerry Brown? He has the age problem too. Corey Booker? Does anyone want another DLC moderate?

Not exactly anyone inspiring in the whole lot.

thank you mott for at least acknowledging trump has more than a 0% chance to win, in spite of what others may say on here.

I think joe biden pretty much is the solution the democrats need. He's folksy, would appeal well to the midwest, even the obamacrats loved him.

One consideration though is that dems need to turn out minorities, so there is a balance to be struck. Many talk about how turnout was "down" for hillary in 2016, but that's slightly incorrect. Turnout was skyhigh for obama because he was black jesus. So the main solution democrats need to strike is the balance of re-converting white people to their side while also boosting minority support.

A lot of wishful thinking there. Hillary won't have a chance, or Warren or Sanders this time around. Schultz? Please.

Obama came out of nowhere, as did Trump. I'm sure we're not even thinking of the person who will eventually get the nomination at this point.

But it should be a good race. Trump is extremely unpopular, and it is unlikely that Dems will nominate someone as flawed as Hillary again.

last I checked trump has been rebounding in the polls, average I have seen from realclearpolitics is near mid 40's now.

Reagan was in the 30's at a point in his first term, and crushed 84. Obama was in the 30's in 2011 and won re-election. You might want to re-assess the role of "unpopularity" plays 3 years out from an election. Additionally, national popularity does't always correlate to our electoral system. Cali, new york and a few other states can almost account for half the electorate as it is. Doesn't mean shit.

Another option is Bernie Sanders.

I saw a poll recently that he's the second most popular "democrat" after obama. That's pretty impressive.

He would also hit trump at the heart of his economic populist message that resonates so well in places like Michigan. Go back to the primaries last year and bernie came out of no where and did awesome in Michigan. It was a historical polling blunder/error that vastly underestimated his appeal.

Bernie would be able to have lots of enthusiastic base support, would be political judo on trumps main talking points, and minorities would have to suck it up and vote for him because they def wouldn't want trump.

I still maintain to this day that Bernie would have won the election vs. trump.

I don't know what this says about our country, but no one with the name Hickenlooper is ever going to be Prez. I said the same thing about Huckabee. I just don't see it happening, man!

I think Obama was an aberration: weird name, but undeniably one the greatest and most charismatic politicians of our generation. I think it made up for the bizarre name!

The big question is, who will be the Republican contenders... I will be supprised if Rump does not get a serious fight for the nomination.

that's because you are a retard jarod, and very bad at analyzing politics. Trump is THE most popular republican. There was a poll out just the other day that while the republican party is at a historical all time low in favorbility ratings, it's because republicans themselves hate the current elite establishment and want them to support trump. 80% of republicans are all in on trump. There is NOT going to be a serious challenger to trump. he will NOT be primaried. You are STUPID.

I heard that Trump has more support than the GOP. He could just start his own party.

I would vote for him again just to watch the free entertainment weeping liberals provide.

there are literally multiple countries that essentially no longer exist today that got erased under obama's presidency. ISIS has run rampant through syria (all obamas fault). healthcare is a joke, it's literally his only legislative accomplishment out of 8 years and it's falling apart at the seams. He literally did nothing but provide you an excuse to jack off.

Trump has taken the GOP hostage. Mcconnel, ryan, mccain, graham, all those sellouts are more despised than ever. Trump is now the republican party, that's why some GOPe are so salty.

Can any liberal name one accomplishment that Obama and his minions achieved during the 8 years DEMOCRATS infested the Oval Office?
