1984 ?

Took them long enough. Jeeebus, even Bush didn't ask citizens to report other's "fishy" opinions to an official tip line...

You guys are paranoid. When I heard about that, my first thought was, 'okay, they want to know what kind of misinformation is being spread around, so they can specifically address it.'

Naturally, everyone on the right interpreted it as a big bro/your name will be put in the database forever thing.

Weird.

LOL if Bush had done that you'd be the first to cry "Nazi".

Nah; I never made a big deal about the homeland security stuff. Don't try to ascribe what you see as the "Joe Liberal" point of view to me.

My problems with Bush were twofold:
- being woefully incompetent for the job he got
- carelessly causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands

The war in Iraq wasn't careless.

The war in Iraq wasn't careless.

You're right; it was beyond careless. It was reckless.

Instead of having a President who would bend over backwards to find a way to avoid war, we had a President who basically decided on a war, and then looked for anything he could to justify that decision.

Our national security was not at stake; there was no imminent threat. We rushed to war when there were other options, and many died as a result.

Nah- we had a big mouth bully who needed to get hung, and W was the man to do it. The world is better off now.

Yes because now we have a nation which is based, at least in part on Shari'a law instead of a secular Iraq. Much better thing since Islamic societies are so much more friendly to western ideas.

Yeah people post stuff of boards and spread viral emails because they want to keep them secret?

It's you're idea that Shari'a law is bad, not mine. Perhaps yours is the "western idea" that they don't like. If that's what they've self-determined, I don't have a problem with it whatsoever. *shrug*

Iran's present government is self determined as well. They overthrew their democratically elected government in the 70s and replaced it with the Islamic dictatorship they wanted so badly.

Were the elections done fairly, like this last time?

The way they got their Islamic state is by overthrowing the functioning democracy with guns. Patriots, all of them!

Guess you don't have any problem with the Iranian theocracy. I mean, it was chosen by the people. They wanted it so badly, they went and took it at gunpoint. You probably have to love them for that too. We know how you love using guns to get what you want.

First you say its what the people chose, then you claim it was a revolution.

did the other side fight back with guns, or just sheepishly accept their new tyrannical overlords?

They chose a revolution, and the incoming government was very popularly supported for a very long time. It's only the younger generation now that wasn't around then that stands in opposition to the present government.
