All steroids tend to suppress the immune system. So they are walking a tightrope here between trying to prevent a cytokine storm, and suppressing his immune system's ability to fight it off naturally.

I think it's a little more complex. Many just want tax cuts and stacked courts. In private they will admit that trump is a moron. Then there are those who 'took a chance', and are now too proud to admit that trump is a fool.

BTW, being sick also gives Trump the perfect opportunity to avoid an embarrassing loss in November. He can resign as a hero and for the good of the nation for medical reasons....and pardon his children and friends on the way out the door.

The numbers are saying he's going to lose, maybe lose bigley. He would face those problems regardless if he loses or resigns; but by resigning, he could give the Republican party a boost, perhaps saving the WH and the Senate. Either one would be a huge benefit if he does face any post-Presidency Federal problems....maybe even help with State problems.
