I went to an Aldi Grocery store once!

I filled up my shopping cart up about half way.

I went to check out, and after I checked out, the cashier said I needed to start bagging up my own groceries, and told me they did not provide any bags, and that I needed to provide me own bags.

I said, "No Thanks", turned and walked away, did not pay, and never went back!

Then I went to a real grocery store- One that was a little more service oriented.

Lemme guess, you had everything double bagged in those plastic bags which you then stuffed in the trash can to go to the landfill where the scavenger birds will get them wrapped and tangled around their beaks causing them to not be able to eat so they slowly starve to death.

I'm not opposed to that. It's not just children who litter. The plastic bag situation is much worse - blowing around lakes and rivers, stuck in trees and bushes.

Now having said all that - I reuse plastic bags when I go shopping. They have not been banned in my state, but if you don't bring your own/used ones when you shop all stores charge you for new ones. When they become too degraded to use again, they go in the recycling bin.

Does that make me a hypocrite? I hope not.

So who is doing the littering? ... I live near a college and those students litter a lot, mostly water bottles and beer cans. Then there are the fast food bags you see along the road. So we have different experiences.

No, you're not a hypocrite. In the link I posted about Cali, people put air tags on bags and found that they did not get recycled by the recylcers.

In my county, if you forget to bring your own bag, they will sell you paper bags for a nickel each.

Well your city probably requires plastic garbage bags in cans because your town is too small to afford the new style kind of trash and recycle bins that can be picked up automatically without any manual interaction by humans other than the truck driver....

Very few IF ANY municipal or county waste disposal programs accept those bags for recycling.
