10 States have BANNED retailers from offering disposable PLASTIC BAGS but paper is ok

Well, I on occasion get to the point where I just throw my hands in the air and say "Fuck it!!! What's the use? It's all fucked anyway, so why torture myself worrying about it? Besides, about 50,000 years or so after mankind destroys itself, nature will have reclaimed everything and healed all the damage we did anyway, so it's all cool."

But I just can't let it go to the point where I don't care at all anymore and stop trying to recycle everything I can and keep my carbon footprint down as low as possible, etc, etc.

I don't think I could ever profess to anyone what you just did.

That I don't give a shit about it.

If for no other reason than how it affects wildlife and makes animals sick and suffer.

That's just cold ass shit.

In my own defense, I never claimed to be proud of it.

I went to an Aldi Grocery store once!

I filled up my shopping cart up about half way.

I went to check out, and after I checked out, the cashier said I needed to start bagging up my own groceries, and told me they did not provide any bags, and that I needed to provide me own bags.

I said, "No Thanks", turned and walked away, did not pay, and never went back!

Then I went to a real grocery store- One that was a little more service oriented.

Lemme guess, you had everything double bagged in those plastic bags which you then stuffed in the trash can to go to the landfill where the scavenger birds will get them wrapped and tangled around their beaks causing them to not be able to eat so they slowly starve to death.

You must feel so proud of how you showed Aldi who's boss.

I'm not opposed to that. It's not just children who litter. The plastic bag situation is much worse - blowing around lakes and rivers, stuck in trees and bushes.

Now having said all that - I reuse plastic bags when I go shopping. They have not been banned in my state, but if you don't bring your own/used ones when you shop all stores charge you for new ones. When they become too degraded to use again, they go in the recycling bin.

Does that make me a hypocrite? I hope not.

So who is doing the littering? ... I live near a college and those students litter a lot, mostly water bottles and beer cans. Then there are the fast food bags you see along the road. So we have different experiences.

No, you're not a hypocrite. In the link I posted about Cali, people put air tags on bags and found that they did not get recycled by the recylcers.

In my county, if you forget to bring your own bag, they will sell you paper bags for a nickel each.

Boy you're really on a rant.

"Disposable nappies made up 21% of the waste found in the waterways of 15 Indonesian cities, according to a 2018 World Bank study. In the water, nappies break down into microplastics, leach chemicals, damage marine life and potentially contaminate drinking water, most of which comes from the rivers."
:barf:

"The vast majority end up in landfill, where they take hundreds of years to break down. Globally, more than 300,000 disposable nappies a minute are sent to landfill, incinerated or end up in the environment, including the ocean."

You are over-thinking things again- and showing signs of being over-emotional.

The plastic bags that grocery stores use to sack up their groceries, are not much different than the ones they use in the produce section. So you do not use plastic bags to keep your produce together, and just throw all the fruit and vegetable in your cart loosely? I mean, don't potatoes come in 10 and 5 lb' plastic bags? Isn't most meat you buy wrapped in plastic? How about the frozen food section? Just about everything you buy frozen is wrapped in plastic or in plastic bags. How about paper products like toilet paper, and paper towels and etc.?

So if you are trying to lay some guilt trip on me- save it for yourself.

With all the plastic in the landfills, what makes you think birds only choose plastic carry out bags to get hung up in?

No offense intended here, but fuck your convenience. :fu:

Your convenience is last on the list of priorities.

Again, no offense.

He alluded to his age as a cause for his selfish indifference, but someone like that never cared about environmental stewardship.

No, I do not put my produce in those plastic tear-off-the-roll bags. I put produce in the tote bin that I use rather than bags.

And no, those produce bags are not the same as the grocery bags. The grocery bags are tougher and have the molded in loops for hand carrying. Those loops are what allow animals, especially birds to get themselves wrapped up and entangled.

As for frozen food, most of the frozen food I buy comes in pasteboard boxes that go in the recycling bin when empty. Of the few items I buy that come in bags, the bags get cut up into smaller pieces that birds can't get tangled in.

So enjoy your guilt all by yourself.

You earned it by being such a lazy, self-absorbed prick who won't even take the tiny amount of effort to bag his own groceries into reusable cloth bags or containers in order to lessen the suffering of wildlife, because of your apathy and lack of concern for anything but the convenience of your own lazy ass.

BTW, this is what I take to the grocery store to put my groceries in....

They're perfect. They fit right in the cart's basket, hold plenty of items, it's easier to carry one tote than several bags, it lasts for years and years and more importantly, it totally eliminates the need for plastic grocery bags.

I've never known you to be an asshole or obtrusive member here, but you are pushing it today!

Even my city requires us to use plastic bags to set out our trash, and they have to be put in a trash can, so this personal war you seem to be having with plastic bags is not a personal concern of mine.

My city, Mesquite, Texas, also furnishes every homeowner with a huge plastic tub marked "Recyclables", to be used for all recyclable materials, and that is where I dispose of all of my plastic carry out bags and all other recyclable materials!

Our city separates the recyclables and sells them to the respective recycling centers!

It's one thing to not care about one's own convenience,
but imposing your goodie-two ideas on everybody else will not likely be tolerated.

It's probably too late to save the planet for future habitation.
We destroyed the planet with over-population, not with plastic bags or V8 engines or livestock farts.

Those last of us to inhabit this Earth may as well live our lives however we see fit.
Carrying three or four big totes to the supermarket is not how I see fit to live.

Well your city probably requires plastic garbage bags in cans because your town is too small to afford the new style kind of trash and recycle bins that can be picked up automatically without any manual interaction by humans other than the truck driver....

maxresdefault.jpg

That's what we have here.

But as far as carry out grocery bags are concerned, I checked the website for your city's recycling program....

https://www.cityofmesquite.com/265/Residential-Recycling-Program

...and according to them, those bags are NOT allowed in the recycling bins.

So I'll just say you are "mistaken" about that.

Very few IF ANY municipal or county waste disposal programs accept those bags for recycling.

You have to take them back to the grocery store and hope they collect them for that purpose.

Tolerated???? What are you going to do.... stomp your foot? Throw a tantrum?

I don't require your tolerance.

Anyway, your idea of what constitutes "goody-two-shoes ideas" indicates that you may very well just be an asshole.

But then, you did once mention being from Boston so.... Masshole? :dunno:

Saying it's too late to try to do your part is just a lazy-MINDED excuse for being too apathetic and lazy-ASSED to put forth a little effort.

Standing up for environmental concern is hardly goody-two-shoes. And when the subject concerns harming innocent wildlife that your lazy self centered refusal to even make an attempt to keep some of that which is causing their suffering out of their world, you're showing yourself to be a callous lowlife.

As for your "three or four totes" comment, either you don't read well or you're just desperate for something to discredit me.

I clearly said I use ONE tote bin.

Pay for your stuff, wheel it back out to your car in the grocery cart, pop it in the backseat.

Then when you get back home, tote it into the house, put it on the counter and unload it.

Piece of cake.

Even for a lazy-ass. ;)

I suppose I can put you on ignore...Goodie-Two-Shoes.

Bullshit. You have no data to support your "landfill scavenger birds tangled in bags" claim.

You just made that shit up.

I don't have enough time left to worry about the planet.
It should be understandable that for me, my personal convenience will always be the priority.

I agree, you've earned the right to tell these socialist authoritarian 'banners' to fuck off.

So you stopped fucking your grandmother long enough to spout that shit?

She must've fallen asleep on you again.

Redneck trash slob that you are.

That's not even a grocery store bag in that photo shopped pic, not is it a landfill scavenger bird. :palm:

Post your data for all to see, little bitch.

Ignorant redneck slob like you wouldn't know a photoshopped picture if it was of you giving it to your mother doggy style.

Post your data on "tangled" birds, or don't and prove yourself to be a little bitch and a liar.
