I'm so old I remember when the fact that Obama got Osama would ensure his re-election. Now I'm told that anyone who votes for Obama because he got Osama is "fucking retarded."

I see. So the means one employs to amass wealth is irrelevant so long as you work hard and become successful? So you wouldn't attack, say, a person who amassed a great fortune operating a national network of abortion clinics who ran for president on the grounds that he earned his wealth through immoral means. You'd take the view that so long as he worked hard and became successful any attack on his wealth is out of bounds?

You also seem to subscribe to the view that what one does with the wealth amassed (like stash it in an account in a tax shelter country to avoid taxation) is irrelevant.

Interesting set of values you have there, SF.

If the person was successful while operating within the law, absolutely. That person having a Swiss bank account would not be an issue. I would still speak out against abortions, but that doesn't change the fact that the person followed the American dream.

If it is in a legal tax shelter, then I have no problem with it at all. You seem to be ignorant of the fact that our government consistently wastes money and that I am a proponent for a different tax code. I think everyone should do everything within the law to decrease their taxes... unless of course they are the ones harping about needing to pay more. Those idiots should lead by example.

Oh well, I disagree. I believe that off-shore tax havens are unpatriotic and getting away with something the average American can't. I sure hope this becomes an issue in the campaign because I don't think you'll find many on your side. OUtside of the 1 percent I mean.

So you take the view that so long as it's legal it's OK, even if it's immoral. I think that's bullshit, but that's probably why I'm a liberal and you're not.

I could care less if it strikes you as honest or not. It is where I stand. If you want real world examples, I detest the fast food industry and what it has done to the health of the nation. That said, the people who created the McDonalds/KFC/Taco Hell etc... did follow the American dream. They did become successful and I can't fault them for providing what the masses wanted, no matter how much I don't like their product.

The same can be said about the countless loopholes and deductions that are written into our tax code. The same can be said about the countless times the rich/celebrities get away with actually breaking the law. Our current tax code is designed for the wealthy. It is designed to protect the old money families... many of whom are Dems.

Do you find it equally deplorable the families that have money stashed in family trusts that will never be subject to the estate tax?
