Should the South claim Autonomy from the North?

I haven't read all the posts so maybe this idea has been previously put forward. Anyway, considering winter is here I have a suggestion.

It seems the South is more Conservative. The whole self-reliant thing. Guns. Wide open spaces. That sort of old west, land-settling mentality with limited laws. Sooo, I suggest perhaps a trade of Canada for the South.

Now, before anyone scoffs at the idea let's take a closer look. Canada has wide open spaces. Alberta has oil. Quebec has more than enough clean, hydro power from the James Bay dam. Canada could be joined to the Northern States. Imagine the benefit to industries having access to an abundance of oil and electricity.

Then there's Alaska. Wouldn't it be nice to have the country joined? And let's not forget the Great Lakes. The new country would own them all. The most fresh water in the world, I think.

Last, but certainly not least, consider the words of Rahm Emanuel, "Never let a crisis go to waste." Yes, I'm talking global warming. As the Arctic melts just think of the land that will become available. Then there's the Northwest Passage. It will become a major trade route and new US could charge passage fees.

Finally, there wouldn't be any more border problems with Mexico as the US would border the new Canada on the south.

I hope this is taken under consideration in a timely manner as I'm already retired and time is of the essence. :)

Those cincinnati people were probably the middle men profiting from NAFTA(bringing cheap Canadian exports into America).

WHOA WHOA WHOA! Let me get this straight!!!! The wealthiest cities in Texas are DEMOCRATIC??? I would Imagine the majority are Republicans in the rest. The Republicans are pro wealthy and yet the Democrats are the ones with all the cash?LOL

maybe you're not very familiar with how big cities work demographically. the wealthy people can afford to live out in the burbs, not right in the city. inner city living is relatively cheap because of gov assistance. so no, the democrats are not all the ones with the cash.

No I just live in the 4th Largest city in North America(note sarcasm).LOL It is true that the rich(usually) keep moving to the outskirts of the city and as the city expands(where its safer and less polluted and believe it or not cheaper) they keep moving to the outer edges, though the bulk of the wealthy live in the city close to their jobs or companies.

If the Republicans are the ones that own all the wealth and the Democrats work for the republicans?Why would they be voting against the hands that feed them? That would be stupid.lol
