Should the South claim Autonomy from the North?

There is a very big divide in America in regards to the North Democrats vs the South Republicans.

Why dont the southerns claim Autonomy? Not separation but autonomy(self rule).

They can apply their Republican Principles and the democrats can supply their Democratic principles and in the end, we will see who has the better system.

Right now democracy is about imposing their will upon the other. When democrats win they try to impose their will, and when Repubs win they try to impose their will(even more so) over the democrats.

Why not separate the ideologies? Its not like if the south were to try to separate today, the north would go to war with them. They would never get away with it.

They can even fly their confederate flag with Texas being the capital state.

What are your thoughts. Would this work. Why or why not.

the last time this was attempted, the southern democrats wanted to keep people as property. you still have that going on up north now, so why bother with trying to separate us?

what kind of an argument is this?LOL

People up north are trying to keep people as property?

Anyways, lets try to keep this debate in the present. Times have changed. If the south were to claim Autonomy, would you say the North would wage war?lol Yes or no.

having been born and raised in northern illinois, the atmosphere up there highly suggests that one is subject to the whims of government, so yes.

and yes, if the southern states were to attempt to secede, the north would gleefully rain down as much military might as it could muster.

we only need to get rid of a couple dozen metropolitan areas......then there would be no reason for the South to leave....

for example, let's make Detroit a separate nation.....

What a testimony in regards to Illinois!

Not secede but claim autonomy. WOW! what a testimony!!! The land of the free doesn't sound so free!! Basically you are saying you are enslaved by northern elites? AM I hearing correctly???

And all the northern Republican states can do what?

States, by their very nature, are petty autonomous already.

They are stuck, unless they want to move. Its just like it is unrealistic to believe that California will be Republican.

If states are soooo autonomous? Why do they cry about government regulations? Why do they cry about the democrats enforcing their legislature(Like Obama care) on them?

I believe States should have more reign but the facts are they don't.

I'm not sure who this is directed at. Do you think the north would attack the south if the south claimed autonomy? You think the North can drum up support for that in today's age?

How does 'the south' not have autonomy already? From what you've posted you seem to be inferring that this new autonomy would cause them to cede much of their current authority, making them actually less autonomous.

Besides the power to coin money, declare war, make treaties and to a certain degree regulate trade what do they not have autonomy in?

Taxation, Christian principles, things like abortion, the right to pray in schools, what are the big controversies when a democrat is in charge?

Democrats want universal healthcare and republicans do not.

Democrats believe in taxation for the poor, Christians believe in free will giving.

There are just sooo many examples.

States can tax however they like.
Christian principles
Yeah, the states agreed to that. It's the Constitution, in the 1st and 14th Amendments.
things like abortion
Got me there.
the right to pray in schools
Goes back to 1A.

States can and do determine their own healthcare laws. Hawaii, MA, etc. And again, states can tax however they like.

you can lay that blame squarely on the shoulders of the FDR and dems.
