Yep, gay marriage will definitely ruin the institution of marriage </sarcasm>

A question about the studies. If you have two loving couples, one gay, one straight, is the main reason that the studies determine the child is 'better off' due to the fact that we as a society stigmatize gay marriages and to varying degrees 'look down' on those relationships? Is it not personal bias that leads us to think straight marriages are better? I would argue that the main reason people state the child would be better is because then that child wouldn't have to potentially be exposed to the bigotry against gay couples that exists.

Just my opinion.

And that hits the nail, directly on the head.
Society needs to grow past the opinions that they've formed.

By that logic, we may as well have maintained laws against interracial marriage...after all, nobody is the denied to right to marry since a white person can marry another white person, and a black person can marry another black person. Yep, no problem there.

I threw that same argument out and there was a large outcry of disbelief, by those who are against gay's being able to marry each other.

So, has the institution of marriage always been changing? Does anyone here belive that it has been a static thing defined as it is today and as it was in the 1950' or as it was in 1870, or as it was in 1560?

I think it is more often based on how the different gender roles add to a child's development. You learn things from your mother that you do not learn from your father, and of course vice versa...

This is a hell of way to say, "Welcome".

Did he say 27,000 died last night?!!!

What is the solution, to kill them in the womb? The Christian Children's Fund is obviously doing their part to make the world a better place for children. I myself sponsor two children, one in Bolivia and another in Haiti. I'm not trying to be rude, especially since you're someone I respect - but I must ask, what do you do for these children, Apple?

If everyone in the western world voluntarily opened their wallets, whether it be through micro loans, sponsoring children/families, or giving their time (whether secular or religious in nature), the remainder of the world would be a much better place, I assure you that.

Only a small percentage of the population believes that homosexuality is deviant. Google it, and see. Meaning you're out of touch with reality. Like always.

Not being contrary here, just pointing out. What if it is? It is "deviant" to get turned on by the sound of popping balloons, but some kinksters do. What if they get married? Would they suddenly be "ruining the institution of marriage"?

Every person is different in what lights their fire, calling it "deviance" when I would call it "individual preference" doesn't change that reality.

I've never been able to figure out why it would be important to people if it were a "choice"... If that's what lights your fire, why should I care? So long as there is no victim, adults making choices are none of my business.

He makes sure people can kill them so that they won't have to "suffer" a life of being poor or unwanted, obviously death is preferable to being poor...

Can a man not fill a feminne gender roll and a woman not fill a masculine one? I know that the majority of men are masculine and the majority of women are fem. but I also know some women who are more masculine than many men, and I knwo some men that are more fennine than many women.

I don't believe it is "role" that they are studying. What they are looking at is how the child relates to the parent of same sex, and how they relate to the parent of opposite sex. How and what they learn from each and why.

The assumption is that these studies are done by somebody trying to discredit homosexual relationships, the vast majority of the time nothing could be further from the truth. You take different things from parents of the same sex than you take from parents of the opposite sex and relate differently to each at different times of your childhood/adolescence/adulthood...

All of this being said, a child does better if they have a loving family, and they do best if that family is consistent regardless of the sex of the parents.

LOL you keep saying that. I've never heard of it anywhere else. I hope I never do! I will just take your word that such people exist...

I could not agree more!

I like it, it makes me grin because it is so freaking weird. It was the weirdest of kinks I found when I was trying to write that book. I think I may pick it up again.. Put it in the future, I think sci-fi geeks are missing out on some of life's kinks...

:D
