Again, it's the shame level. In the US they would feel shame. So far, all the light shining on it hasn't stopped them. My guess is that the shame level is non-existent.

What light, up to now it has been a veritable darkness? Can you honestly say that you had even heard about it before I posted that BBC report?

Dude, there are posters all over that nation warning the parents to watch over the kids, etc. That you are Eurocentric and think that the only light is if you personally hear about it doesn't change that there's been light on that, and where it matters.

You can be a sanctimonious so and so at times, just because you know about it that means everybody does. Your attitude seems to be that it's Africa and that stuff just goes on and we can do fuck all about it.

Right... I am the "sanctimonious" one... I am simply asking you what should be done and your answer is: we should talk about it, that if all the Brits know it will all stop because there will be "light" on it.

I simply asked you a question...

What if, as the evidence seems to say, they don't care if you "shine light" on it? What next?

Let's pretend that the answer: "We should shine light on it" simply doesn't exist. What do you think other nations should do to stop crime in this nation?

How does any problem get highlighted but by publicity to raise awareness? That's the first stage, the next is for the USA and Europe to use diplomatic channels to object officially to the barbaric practices, followed by targeted economic sanctions against the assets of key government officials and visa bans on their wife's shopping trips to Europe. Nothing concentrates a politician's mind more than an irate wife moaning that she can't buy her favourite perfume in Paris. Grace Mugabe aka the First Shopper of Zimbabwe is a notable example.

Fair enough, it's exactly that attitude that allowed atrocities in places like Ruanda, Zimbabwe, Burma, East Timor to happen. How can highlighting this problem be bad, for Christ's sake? It seems to me that you are saying that it's Africa and that's what they do. How about signing the petition to help stop this barbaric practice?
