Good. We agree. People should prove who they are and that they can legally vote. Thanks.
And people can prove who they are without having to pay for a government ID. You're welcome.

It's the equivalent of a poll tax, which was outlawed by SCOTUS.

As long as they can prove they are legal according to the voting laws in their state, it's fine with me.
Proving you have the right to vote is not a poll tax by any stretch of the imagination, and its the CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY of the government to see that only citizens
are voting.....
Absolutely......great......all we need is approval by Congress to what is acceptable.....
We already know what's acceptable. It's repubs trying to change those parameters.
That's hilarious. So you want the federal government to spend money so that people can get state-issued identification because Republican passed stupid laws. And here I thought you were a small-government type. What's more, you want the funding to come from some other existing government program of a new tax to pay for it and you want it implemented immediately. And if the Democrats don't pass it, it is on them. You're a riot.
The problem is the voter ID laws. You're trying to solve a problem created by the Voter ID laws. If you just get rid of the Voter ID laws, there is no problem.
They are all discussed at length in the report linked at the OP. That you are unaware of them is not surprising. It may explain why you can't see the obvious: Republicans are engaged in a coordinated voter suppression campaign.
That makes a lot of sense, SF. You should keep repeating that over and over. It's an argument with tremendous merit.
People prove they have the right to vote when they submit a voter application properly filled out, and the election bureau checks it before issuing a voter card.
Voting laws are passed and enforced to ensure legal voting and to keep fraud to a minimum. Once again, you appear to be condoning illegal voting.
People CLAIM they have the right to vote when they submit a voter application...they don't PROVE anything....
A drivers license will get you registered to vote, it doesn't prove you're a citizen and election bureau checks NOTHING before issuing a voter card..well, maybe the address you claimed was yours, but then voters are well know to register with empty lots as a address....
You're starting to lose your grip on reality over this subject....
Post 37. What proof that's not already on the application would make you happy?
Thats true.....fraud is hard to uncover and by the time it is, its too late to change....
The laws serve no purpose whatsoever other than to suppress potential Democratic voters from voting. Whether it would be a good idea for people to have identification (and voter ID laws are just a part of the suppression effort) is irrelevant.
Where does it say in the Constitution that citizens have to pay in order to vote?
Why do you see voter fraud as irrelevant?
Why do you see voter fraud as irrelevant?
Adding layers to the voting process WILL reduce the # of voters statistically. You can call it whatever you want.
And it is no coincidence that the GOP is consistently the party that wants to add more layers, and opposes measures like motor-voter. They benefit from fewer people voting. If we had 100% turnout in this country, the political landscape would look much different. The Republican party would basically look like it does in NY or MA.
21 million people don't have a government issued ID. That'a lot of people automatically disqualified from voting. And for no good reason.
And, like I said, that's just one part of the suppression efforts.
