Yes, actually Bush was in Crawford on VACATION!
your OP claims he did not cut his vacation short. is that accurate?
Yes, actually Bush was in Crawford on VACATION!
So, what have we concluded from all of this?
a) ODS afflicts the victim in such a way as to make it impossible for them to give Obama credit in any way, at any time
b) Obama & FEMA did in fact respond to HURRICANE Irene in a much better & more effective fashion than Bush responded to Katrina
c) Conservatives are okay with this legacy for Bush: "Hey, at least he wasn't any worse than Roy Nagin"
d) Yurt will routinely fabricate things that other posters "say"
e) SF thinks that the weathermen around the country are controlled by Obama
F) Damo is fairly adament that what we experienced over the weekend was just a bit of a drizzle
Good thread...

Good thread...
Your objection to my simple post where I pointed out that they are not the same thing tells a different story. It's been pretty much the only thing I've said to you throughout the thread in different ways using different analogies. Now go pick that bouquet of stink weeds for your wife, if she's like you, the "similarities" should be enough to make them a lovely center piece for your dinner.
At least we've gotten to the point where "we" can understand that the storms that hit the two places were massively different, as well as the situation between the places. Now, tell me again how they are the same thing... There's no eye, the winds are less than we get daily on the plains, the storms are not the same thing. That FEMA performed better is great, but it wasn't tested like Katrina tested it and I hope it never is.
The prep in anticipation of this hurricane was spot on. And look at the area covered - many states, many local authorities to coordinate with, many millions more to evacuate or prepare. They're right...there really is no comparison to Katrina. This one was more involved.
As for what happened after the storm hit...who can forget over a full day of images of thousands of people stranded in New Orleans, in the floods...while NO leadership came from anywhere? There was a void, and a sense of chaos. Americans watching the fiasco had the same questions...what's going on? Who is in charge? Why isn't anyone helping these people?
Stark contrast, indeed....
you have repeatedly said this thread is only about bush vs. obama and nothing at all to do with nagin or blanco. explain how your second paragraph is bush's fault, specficially, the first sentence, explain how bush ALONE is responsible...the rest is just pure fluff and hyperbole.
This thread is about the contrast between 2 Presidents during a weather crisis.
Oh - and this thread is about the contrast between 2 Presidents.
And again - this thread compares 2 Presidents. If you want to start a thread comparing Nagin to the mayor of Ocean City, have at it.
Like I said, have at it if you want to start a thread about Nagin.
UOTE=Onceler;861327]Well, that's the whole thing, Yurt, and I'm glad you brought it up. Nagin & the locals failed, so there was a massive leadership VOID. What happened in New Orleans was a national crisis - it was on every news channel 24x7 for over a day. People just stranded.
And Bush, who told us he was a leaderrrr, and whose minions & worshippers told us for ages how much of a leaderrr he was...hung out for an extra day on vacation, and didn't step in. That situation demanded Presidential leadership, and he failed, massively.
Stop making excuses for him. It's embarassing.
What an absurd response. How did anything I said contradict the thread being about 2 Presidents? There was a leadership void during Katrina. This highlighted Bush's failure to step up - in his role as national leader.
Why is that so hard for you? So intent on the gotcha, that you easily miss the bigger picture, and the main point. You're truly dense.
And, btw - YOU brought up Nagin, again.
You're really silly, and dumb as a box of rocks.....

Yeah...a "massive difference" between tropical storms and hurricanes...exactly 1 MPH. O-N-E.
Pretty dang massive...
I pointed out that both produce damaging winds...
You ignored it.
I pointed out that both produce storm surge...
You ignored that as well.
I pointed out that both cause property damage...
You ignored this also.
I pointed out that both can cause loss of life...
You...well, we get the message.
I won't even go into your ridiculous claim that you get maximum sustained winds of 73 mph DAILY on the plains...please!
Tropical Storms can do unbelievable damage...as much as any Hurricane.
If you doubt, I suggest you go look up some details about Tropical Storm Allison that hit Houston a few years back...massive flooding..hundreds of thousands without power...one of the most advanced hospital complexes in the world standing useless, it's bottom three floors completely underwater...tell me again how tropical storms aren't anything like hurricanes will ya?
I know this will probably get ignored also...and I'll get treated to yet another multi paragraph dissertation on the difference between stinkweeds and roses but in the end, watching how far you're willing to reach to make Obama look bad is just too much fun!
One produces less damaging winds, can you tell me which it is? Can you tell me the difference between a Cat 3 Hurricane and the (barely) tropical storm that hit Virginia? Was the difference massive? And no it wasn't 1 MPH... Not even close. And yes, we have gusts daily that are in that range, usually at the end of the afternoon but during the spring/fall they'll last all day like that.
Yeah, stinkweeds and roses dude. You keep telling yourself that the two are comparable, it might even convince you. However most of us without OWS (Obama Worship Syndrome) can tell there is a difference between the two storms compared in the OP of this thread. Shoot, even the thread creator knows there is a difference.
Again, FEMA performed better during this storm than Katrina, but the comparison is simply incredible. FEMA hasn't, and I hope they never do, had a test during this Administration that was anything at all like Katrina.
We'll sum up:
1. Onceler sees no difference between a cat 5 hurricane bearing down on New Orleans that was downgraded to Cat 3 just before it hit, and a Cat 1 that is downgraded to a Tropical Storm before it hits.
2. Those with OWS will say anything to try to tell us that Obama is marginally better than Bush, which I believe is an extremely low bar.
3. Those with OWS believe saying ODS makes them appear superior.
4. Thankfully GWB isn't running in the next election, the war of Bush II and Bush III is officially over. Bush III will end his political career in '12...
And finally, you have a very nice wife who will pretend to like stinkweed.
Here ya go; seriously deluded, Yurt.
This has been a tough thread for you....
