I thought they were rhetorical because they were kind of foolish. There is a reason it is called something other than a hurricane. It's because it isn't one. The attempt to say that a storm that was cat 3 hurricane is the same as a tropical storm hitting a city that is under sea level is laughable.. Pretending that we should panic just as much because you want us to is a bit much for me. The idea that these two storms are comparable is an attempt to call a frog a rose and then expect me to wax rhapsodic about its scent. It still smells like a frog, even if you insist it smells good.
 
BTW, I was NOT comparing the two Hurricanes...

My point was that Preaident Obama did what he did as a relativly small storm approached and Bush did what he did while a HUGE storm approached.

Right...according to you, a tropical storm and a hurricane are not comparable...got it!

Both produce heavy rain, flooding, high winds and power outages...but they aren't comparable.

And according to you they are the same thing, even though they are quite literally not...

Let's try again... It's like saying that a stinkweed smells the same as a rose because they are both plants... They smell differently to me all the time, they smell the same to you when a D is the Gardner and you really want it to be a rose...

I chopped nothing. The analogy is valid. If it were the same thing it would not be named something different. They are quite a different category of storm.

Tell me, how do you feel about the farms that are still under water from when they opened the flood gates on the Mississippi?

Two floods, two different reasons, although the same effect on the farmers... How much money should those people get? Or does it only count if you call it a hurricane? Is that why you insist a storm that wasn't a hurricane was? I'm not getting this. It's stupid to say they are the same thing. A Tropical storm is a much different thing than a Cat 3 hurricane, it will always be less powerful, the damage less, the effect less, then add that the hurricane hit on a city that was situated below sea level...

Imagine if it had been a Cat 3 that hit the East Coast, the sheer size of it would have been devastating, and our conversation would be much different.

But, luckily for them (apparently not to you), it wasn't even a hurricane. I don't know why you are so insistent that it was the "same thing"...

I'm here to give this a bit of perspective, it really wasn't.

Your objection to my simple post where I pointed out that they are not the same thing tells a different story. It's been pretty much the only thing I've said to you throughout the thread in different ways using different analogies. Now go pick that bouquet of stink weeds for your wife, if she's like you, the "similarities" should be enough to make them a lovely center piece for your dinner.

At least we've gotten to the point where "we" can understand that the storms that hit the two places were massively different, as well as the situation between the places. Now, tell me again how they are the same thing... There's no eye, the winds are less than we get daily on the plains, the storms are not the same thing. That FEMA performed better is great, but it wasn't tested like Katrina tested it and I hope it never is.
