No we don't. The deficit ceiling will simply force the federal government to prioritize spending in accordance with what money comes in the door. Families all over the world do it every day.

One mistake that many people make is to compare the national economy with a kitchen budget. Yes, you could put off the fateful day, but how will that help? You will still be seen as a country more happy with in-fighting than governance. You may like that. Your choice.

I am not saying that one thing is better than another just that your overseas trading partners are looking for confidence and stability and you are not prepared to offer that. Again, you might not give a toss. Your industry most certainly will though.

The big mistake you liberals make is ignoring the fact that the "kitchen budget" is exactly how countries should run their budgets. The fact that I want the debt ceiling to remain the same mean that I want the fateful day to happen now rather than in the future.

Continuing tax breaks and loop holes for companies that have racked up record-breaking profits and are sitting on extraordinary amounts of money while advocating cuts to old age pensions?

Advocating cuts to Medicare......"a U.S. government program of hospitalization insurance and voluntary medical insurance for persons aged 65 and over and for certain disabled persons under 65" (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/medicare) Supporting tax cuts for the wealthy while the disabled either struggle to pay their medical bills or are refused medical care due to their inability to pay.

Are these the glorious principals to which you refer?

What you do not seem to realise that that 'fateful' day is also the day of opportunity for all your competitors. So it's not as if everything's going to be alright afterwards.
It would be wonderful if management of a nation's budget was like the management of househol expenses. There are places where this may be possible. I think Lalala Land is one, then there is the land of the giant toadstool. There are probably more.

1) China does not own our ass.... they own approximately 1/14th of our national debt. We OWE them money, but the debt they are owed does not have any ownership stake.

2) Ask the Japanese how 'owning' us worked out for them.

3) You are 100% correct that losing our status as the trusted currency would be detrimental.

Agree with WHAT? Again, for the fourth time... Democrats have put forth NO PLAN! How can the Republicans agree with something that doesn't exist? How is THAT a party issue? It doesn't matter if Republicans are Democrats or Whigs, they can't support a plan that doesn't exist, it's impossible! It is the Democrat-controlled Senate who are 'spiteful little girls' refusing to accept what the majority in the House passed.
