This is a weak argument. If you compare the number of guns deaths in proportion to size of population, the US is far higher than the UK. What this indicates is that, whilst gun crime does exist in the UK, it is multiples higher in the US, where there is little effort to restrict the numbers in the general public.

This demonstrates that the notion of arming as many of the population as possible doesn't act as a deterrent to gun crime, whilst control works considerably better.
 
Anyold, omg I have been the finger in the dike of gun nuts NRA talking points. You murder rate is 4 x less than ours. I keep telling the cubicle Rambo's than while not the only reason the ease of gun ownership is responsible.

But then; there is that little matter where the British many crimes as a single one, if they happen at the same time (ie: one burglary, when there were 6).

Crime figures in the UK are reported in two ways; firstly, crimes reported by individuals to the police. Now unless someone reporting a crime has six houses all of which were burgled in a single incident, they are unlikely to report six burglaries at a crime. The other way is to draw in unreported crime figures through the crime survey.
 
Don't mean to be pedantic, but can I point out that Great Britain isn't just England. We have our Scottish, Welsh and Ulster brethren too. And we love them dearly.

Doubt it. Our thieves nick handbags. No one is going to smash an old bid, open her handbag, find her purse then steal it. Indeed a lot of old people no longer use purses but keep what little they have in a wallet. An old car owning neighbour of ours used to keep her wallet in her boot for safety.

Why would a thief put a nick in a handbag, how old was the car the neighbor owned, and did it make her walk funny when she kept it in her boot; seeing as how it would probably be an irritation to either her ankle, her shin, or her calf?
