Rangel: Please say I didn't do anything wrong

Its not what I said , its a quote from the guy who ran the entire investigation panel.

Now why cant you people figure that one out?

Do you mean committee’s chief counsel, Blake Chisam?

Well Mr. Chisam has collected over $600,000 from working for these Democratic Congressional Committees over the last 4 years($602,890 to be exact)...so I would expect him to say exactly what he said...that is, exactly what he was told to say.....

Desh, if I'd "quoted" a republican hack like this on an "investigation" of another republican you'd rightly be all over that. Follow the money rather than your emotions and consider that the team you are on just passed on doing the right thing. Stop defending this kind of crap, it is exactly what creates the rift in politics you see still growing today...

Quit being so intellectually disingenuous. The guy is bad news, and if he were an R I'd still say he is bad news and needs to be sent back to his district without a job.

So on what basis do you determine this guy is a hack?

He has far greater access to the facts in the case than you do.

You are the one being the hack damo.
No, I'm not. He's worked only for Democratic Committees, and has gained over $500,000 from them over the past three years.

What you give me is pretty much like the Tobacco companies hiring a "study" to say that cigarettes don't cause cancer. The doctor running the study may have a long pedigree, but it doesn't change that he was paid for a conclusion.

If I pulled this out in any debate you'd be all copy/pasting some inane story from hackrus@liberalblogspots.lib telling us about the money he's gained and that he only works specifically for R committees outlining that every decision he has ever made has been directly in favor of the D POV...

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/15/nyregion/15chisam.html?_r=1

So you contend anyone who has is a democrat is a criminal?

How very fucking unpartisan of you.
No, I contend that anybody who is paid to come to a conclusion and has performed that function in the past is a partisan slave, like you.

Again. If any R had done what Rangel has done, I'd be asking for them to send him back to his district. You are willing to "forgive" any indiscretion as long as it had a "D" attached.

Mr. Chisam was an unusual pick for staff director, a post he assumed in April 2009 after it had been vacant eight months. Though he had worked for Ms. Lofgren, it was actually Representative Jo Bonner of Alabama, the ranking Republican member, who suggested Mr. Chisam for the job. Mr. Chisam himself said he was surprised by the selection.

Critics saw him as the default choice of a hampered committee unable to make progress because it had gone eight months without a staff director. But others say that Mr. Bonner suggested Mr. Chisam because of his work ethic and objectivity.

“He’s completely honest; he’s completely professional; he knows the rules inside and out,” said Cleta Mitchell, a lawyer who has represented Republican members before the committee. “He’s by the numbers. He’s very committed to the rule of law.”

frog voted for her to "keep Miller out"

Chris posted her as one of the most corrupt-* Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)

So let R's make an attempt to get her out and we have stupid dems voting for her as a write in...

Again, I surmise you'd be the first to point out what we have if the "tables" were turned, of course only after you found a story about it on mediamatters or one of the other liberal hack "news" sources.

This is one of those things that should have been truly nonpartisan, a clear case of somebody abusing the very authority of his office and on the very committee that was supposed to police that activity. It's gross that anybody would be trying to defend it using the weak "evidence" of somebody's opinion like this. I grow weary of this "argument" I point out again your total inability to be even remotely impartial if there is a "D" associated with the name of anybody at all.

Anyone that can conclude, "there is no evidence of corruption or personal gain in his findings', when one of charges Rangle is guilty of is , failing to report rental income on his Dominican villa (tax evasion), is obviously a liar.

A bit over your head I imagine.

The ethics committee also ordered Rangel to pay thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes from rental income on a villa he owns in the Dominican Republic.

This is a chance you or I (or war hero, Duke Cunningham) wouldn't get....tax evasion=jail...except for Democrats

this is the kind of person desh is defending:

Sadly, Madam Chair, it is my unwavering view that the actions, decisions and behavior of our colleague from New York can no longer reflect either honor or integrity. As I noted earlier, I can’t speak for the people in Mr. Rangel’s district.

But I do know this: for the tenants who qualified for a rent-stabilized apartment in some American city but couldn’t get one because a powerful man had four… there is something wrong.

For the small businesswoman who didn’t pay her taxes for 17 years and had the IRS breathing down her back, I can only imagine how she would have liked to have had a chance to make the tax code simpler – and less burdensome – for everyone else.

And for the still relatively new member of Congress from California who some time ago questioned whether or not it was appropriate to be building a “monument to me,” I will never forget the arrogance of the response: “I would have a problem if you did it,” Mr. Rangel said to Mr. Campbell on the House floor on July 19, 2007, “because I don’t think that you’ve been around long enough to have your name on something to inspire a building like this.”
Madam Chair, it is painful for me to say this but Mr. Rangel can no longer blame anyone other than himself for the place he now finds himself… not this committee, not his staff or
3
family, not his accountants or lawyers, not the press… Mr. Rangel should only look into the mirror when he wants to know who to blame.
While I am not an attorney – as are most of the Members of this Committee, as well as the respondent himself – I know – we all know – that it should not take either a law degree or a legal Dictionary to tell us the difference between right and wrong.

It is now up to each one of us to determine the appropriate measure of punishment for the discredit Mr. Rangel has brought to this House.

What does being a war hero have to do with Cunningham pleading guilty to conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud and tax evasion?

Being a war hero has nothing to do with his guilty plea....why even ask such a stupid question....how could it possibly be connected to his plea?
I certainly didn't say it did, even remotely....

Reading comprehension problem again...or hallucination.???

Rangle is a decorated vet of the Korean War, too.....which, by the way, also has nothing to do with Duke's guilty plea...........in case you're wondering.

Har. You don't fool me.

You stated that Rangel got something "...you or I (or war hero, Duke Cunningham) wouldn't get....tax evasion=jail...except for Democrats."

You threw in the war hero bit to make it seem like Cunningham got the shaft in his sentencing, hinting that the judge should have gone easier on a "war hero". Well, the judge did go easier. He sentenced him to eight instead of ten years.

Duke may have been a war hero but he's also a gay-bashing, corrupt hothead with a fast mouth and a slow brain. No wonder you like him.

"A judge rejected Randall "Duke" Cunningham's tearful bid for mercy today and sentenced the war hero, "Top Gun" instructor and disgraced former congressman to 8 years, 4 months in federal prison for bribery.

Looking thin and haggard, Cunningham, with head downcast, listened as US District Judge Larry A. Burns imposed the sentence.

"You've undermined the opportunity [that] honest politicians have to do good," Burns said.

Burns ordered Cunningham to pay $1.8 million in restitution and refused his request for a week to say goodbye to his family. Cunningham was led from the courtroom by US marshals.

Burns said the only reason he didn't give Cunningham 10 years was because of his military service during the Vietnam War."
