What would you do away with.

How about we start with cutting the waste and bureaucracy, and streamline the essential departments considerably? Then, how about we eliminate federal departments that are inefficient or redundant, or serve no real purpose except to make our lives more miserable? Like the IRS and Dept. of Education? How about we stop paying for appointed "Czars" of this and that, and start allowing private sector capitalist solutions to work? How about a Balanced Budget Amendment and bringing back Line-item Veto? How about we start operating the Federal Government like we have to operate our individual households, on a strict budget, where things aren't bought unless they can be paid for? How about we defund things like Bridges to Nowhere, Big Digs, teaching African males how to clean their penis? How about we stop giving grants to study the mating rituals of spotted owls in the Northwest? Or building Turtle Tunnels underneath the interstates? How about we stop paying $175 million a year to maintain underground helium storage facilities, which were built back when dirigibles were in fashion, and we thought it to be 'strategic' and a matter of national security to build such facilities? How about we stop giving our tax dollars to the NEA to fund "artists" who shit in a can or submerge a cross in urine, and call it "art?"

Sure lets get rid of the IRS, I bet everyone will volentarly pay taxes. Thats a great place for a tea party whacko to start with

And here is your problem, you have peanut butter in your ears. With the litany of suggestions I made, the ONLY thing you heard was "eliminate the IRS" ...the rest didn't seem to penetrate your rock hard noggin'.
 
And here is a few things off the top of my head we can eliminate from the DoD budget.

Land Warrior: Scrap the whole program.
The 'entirely electric warship': Not that the idea doesn't have merit, but from what I've seen it would cost more than comparable nuclear powered ships.
MRAPs: Already well on their way to being obsolete, working on improving counter measures is better.
The IAR program: Yeah, this has bad idea written all over it. Stop now
The ban on selling government surplus items: End that. Now. It doesn't just apply to say, top secret technology (which we wouldn't sell off as surplus anyways), it applies to... old furniture from barracks, outdated computers, old rifles and vehicles. There is a literal fuck ton of money that we're just outright destroying instead of selling.
Civilian MPs: This idea was done to free up stateside MPs for duty overseas. But in the long run it's gonna cost more when we don't need to deploy MPs in place of infantry.
Return punishment money: For those unaware, when someone is punished by NLP/court martial, they often lose some/all their pay. Now this money is already allocated in the budget for salaries, so it doesn't just evaporate. My guess is it either goes to a slush fund or some officer pockets the shit. By returning it back to the people it can save a fuck ton of money.

I'm sure if I spent more time on it, I could find more to cut.

Come on, its really disengenous to whine about ALL taxes, yet support any spending. - - no it's not retard. just because you want to throw money everywhere doesn't mean everyone does. And it doens't make someone a hypocrite because they think government should have a more limited scope
