My belief is that the Almighty created the Universe and everything in it....and maybe a few more universes. Like breaking the rack on a pool table, much of the Universe moves in accordance with the laws of physics. The caveat is that living creatures, especially intelligent ones, can choose to alter the sequence of natural events.
Example: Beavers build a dam that alters a stream. Obviously humans have a great impact on nature. Remember the test to alter the path of an asteroid?

It's exercising choices that make differences in the Universe and may explain why we are here.

I think the theologians will say that if free will leads sometimes to evil and suffering, the life of Jesus of Nazareth was God's way of showing it it not aloof to human suffering and was willing to share in human suffering.

IMHO, the choice between good and evil is one we must all face. We have choices. Some are not always good choices, but still choices.

I think it's unusual that the great prophets of antiquity appeared at roughly the same time all over the world, what Karl Jaspers dubbed the Axial Age.

You really should go learn what crucifixion is. There is no 'near death experience'. Just death by asphyxiation, blood loss, exposure, and getting a sword stuck in your side.
