Globalization, good and bad!

Does it not seem correct that there are some decisions that would be best made at the global level and there are some that would be best made at the local level?

Federalism on a golbal scale....???

With any kind of hierarchical structure the structure itself become the proxy expression of power of the leadership itself.

Bottom line, it's risky being ruled by foreign powers because they see you as "other" and will tend towards using you and abusing you, especially if they have no stake in or exposure to the actual conditions in the society over which they have control. elitism, basically, is the problem, and the detachment and dehumanizing views they hold about humanity, is the problem with overly large authority structures.

Can you give us some examples of what you are thinking?

Jarod, you do not want to have people making decisions for you that:

1) Do not have your interests at heart
2) Have nothing in common with you, with an emphasis on political customs and traditonal models of government
3) Largely represent despotism and autocracy
4) Have no interest or stake in your culture and way of life
5) Will in most cases, envy and hate you

The list could go on and on...

For example, it would seem to me that if an astroid were going to hit the Earth, a consortium made up of a "global government" would be best equiped to deal with the situation.

Issues relating to trash collection in my neighborhood might best be delt with by the local government.

When it comes to local government i see the "not in my backyard" phenomenon coming into play, like cape cod Windmills, and nuclear waste disposal.

Sure, the town of Palm Beach tried to get rid of Palm Beach Elementry, a public school that noone from the town attended....

The County promptly pointed out that All of the trash from Palm Beach is deposited in dumps not located in the town of Palm Beach. Palm Beach quickly changed its mind regarding the Elementry school and currently happily hosts the fine public school students.

Not really. The US and Russia can sufficiently continue to advance their space programs enough so that they can successfully collaborate on the technical matters, and interact with the UN to address such issues.

But if we are saving the world, dont you want everyone to pay a fair share?

Ok, and through what medium are they selected and how would it be any different than the U.N.?

All of that would have to be established, just like the USA was established, just like the EU was established.

"Fair share"? Does this mean that we'd be responsible to buy stuff for third-world nations?

I'd prefer to have people in the US decide how money made in the US will be spent, rather than some third party that doesn't have my best interest at heart even when deciding how to defend against meteors.

Re: global representantives.

Our national politicians are already too detached from the reality of the nation they rule. An additional layer of "representation" would be just that much more disconnect. Of course the nihilists anti-human bankers are pushing for this extra level of authority so they can cultivate a bunch of "global politicians" who will kill anyone for them.

We are pretending that an astroid was about to destroy the world. We can save the world but it will cost a huge amount of money. I am saying if we had a world government for this particular issue, it would be a mechanism to require everyone to pay a share.
