How do you know when your love of Donald Trump has turned into servile worship?

The #TrumpToadies have no principles, no honor, no ethics, no understanding of the Constitution, no love for America and American ideals, no ability to discern fascism, no souls.
^^ Fairly obvious fromt all the nine years of Trump boot-licking that's been going on.

They want a right-wing king, a monarch, a dictator.

They were totally bullshitting us all those years they claimed to be strict Constitutionalist constructionists.

You're right. The Tea Party was the forerunner of the MAGAT party. We LWers said back then that "fiscal responsibility" and "following the Constitution" was just so many words and the real reason for its existence was racism. Turns out we were 100% right.

Too true. I also remember when I first realized that white nationalism and xenophobia were percolating in the core of the GOP: when provocateur Pat Buchanan almost beat a sitting mainstream Republican president in the 1992 GOP primary.

Funny. I hadn't heard that one either. It's anti-Catholic, but common for the times. Remember the controversy over JFK's Catholicism?

Loved this too:

Oh yes. My mother was terrified that we would be under the Vatican's thrall if JFK was elected. He was and we weren't.

I had all of Lehrer's records back then and now have all his songs on CD. He passed away last year at age 97. He was a Harvard grad, a mathematician, and did some of his songs on a political satire program called "That Was the Week That Was" back in the early 1960s. He was an amazing guy.

Forerunner, yes, but MAGAtry is a perversion of the initial Tea Party ideals.

I was a member of the Tea Party when it was local in Texas. It changed when it went national due to the influence of the big money donors like the Koch brothers and people like Dick Armey. It became more racist and anti-Obama instead of focusing on its original principles. That's when I dropped out.

In part, this may have been one reason Occupy Wall Street avoided going national; fear of concentrated power and submitting to monied interests. It's also why is failed. Weird.

The legacies of the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street

The right-wing populism of the Tea Party and the progressive populism of Occupy Wall Street have profoundly affected American politics. Neither the grassroots Tea Parties nor Occupy have continued as mass mobilizations, but their legacies are playing out in the 2016 presidential election primaries, and have powerfully shaped the campaigns of Donald Trump and Senator Bernie Sanders.

While rank-and-file Tea Party identifiers have dwindled, its Congressional caucus of Republican hard-liners continues as a pressure group opposing compromise with Democrats. Former grassroots leaders are now PAC fundraisers, paying themselves handsomely, or collecting checks from the Koch Brothers’ network Americans for Prosperity. But Tea Party passion now mobilizes support for Trump’s brand of reactionary populism....

...Political scientists have observed that, as a leader, Trump embodies “the classic authoritarian leadership style: simple, powerful, and punitive,” one associated with reactionary populists here and in Europe. Further, his supporters hold views that align strongly with attraction to authoritarianism. On a scale of values bookended by fairness and authority, Tea Partiers gave primacy to authority (liberals value authority least, fairness most).

Occupy Wall Street devolved into local actions such as Occupy Sandy relief, and support for families facing eviction. But when Sanders announced his candidacy, the Occupy network immediately mobilized behind him and veterans of the camps across the country moved massively into his campaign as staffers and organizers. In 2011, Sanders had given full-throated endorsement of Occupy, and his massive campaign rallies have given Occupy issues a megaphone within the political mainstream.

The unfairness of the nation’s distribution of rewards and opportunities undergirded the protests of “the 99 Percent” of Occupy Wall Street and has dominated Bernie Sanders’ speeches and policy proposals. Occupy stood (or camped) against the extreme inequality of wealth and income, a rigged tax system in favor of the wealthy and tax avoiding corporations, the burden of student debt, the abuses suffered by student debtors at the hands of private banks and loan firms, and asked for more and better jobs....

....Occupy expressed the indignation of millions of Americans that Wall Street had not been held accountable for criminal fraud and the collapse of 2007-08. It called for reducing the influence of finance and corporations in elections and politics. Sanders has amplified that indignation, demanding that the government stop coddling billionaires at the expense of everyone else, but instead deal with poverty, climate change, and the nation’s crumbling infrastructure.

I was very young but remember the controversy. That all stopped after his assassination. Catholicism hasn't been an issue ever since.

Oddly, six of the nine RW SCOTUS Justices are Catholic with one a left-leaning Catholic. :)

There are now six justices on the right wing who are either practicing Catholics (Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh and Barrett) or were raised Catholic (Neil Gorsuch, now an Episcopalian). A seventh Catholic justice, Sonia Sotomayor, firmly resides on the liberal wing.

Answer: When you continue to defend 100% of everything Trump does even when right-wing gun rights groups are complaining about Trump.

Gun rights groups and legal experts question Trump administration’s stance on the Second Amendment after shooting

Claims by Trump administration officials that the man fatally shot by a federal agent in Minneapolis lacked a right to possess a firearm and that his killing was justified are being dismissed by legal experts and assailed by gun rights groups ordinarily aligned with the president.

The rhetoric from Trump law enforcement officials, including his FBI director and the top Border Patrol agent, goes against the decadeslong GOP effort to throttle gun control rules.

“They’ve stood up in court and tried to push back against state laws that regulate firearms — access, use, carry — so it’s pretty shocking to me to see them now use an example of a lawful gun owner as justification for force,” Megan Walsh, a professor at the University of Minnesota Law School who specializes in the Second Amendment, said of the Trump officials’ comments.

They care much more about the PP than they ever did about the Constitution.

The Jesuit legacy in relation to war includes instances where members of the Society of Jesus were involved in conflicts, such as their participation in the German Resistance against the Nazis, which highlights a complex relationship with political power and moral dilemmas. Additionally, their historical clashes with secular governments and involvement in colonial missions have led to controversies regarding their role in warfare and oppression.

Maybe the TP wasn't racist in your region but it sure as hell was from the start in Missouri. They carried signs about "coming unarmed this time," posters of Obama hanging from a tree, Obama dressed as an African witch doctor with a bone in his nose, mock-ups of Obama's "hope and change" logo, etc. One day traveling down Hwy. 70 we saw a group of Teatards standing on an overpass, holding a giant banner that said "Impeach Obama" -- before he was even sworn in. We knew them for Teatards because a couple were carrying that yellow snake flag they co-opted from the Revolution.

Here's a nasty little story for you. Mr. Owl had a neighbor a few blocks away who had that Teatard flag on a pole in his front yard. One day when we drove past we saw the property swarming with cop cars. Turns out the Teatard guy was in big big trouble. He had patronized a sick fuck in outstate rural Missouri who had coerced a young teen runaway into being a sex slave. He made videos of her being sexually assaulted, electrocuted, having her labia stapled to boards, her vagina sewed shut as "punishment," her being kept naked in a dog pen with a ball gag, gang raped, raped with various objects, whipped, etc. The Teatard guy paid for the videos and also traveled down there to sodomize her multiple times. She was finally rescued when the sicko and his wife had to call 911 because they electrocuted her so badly she nearly died. The Teatard guy and multiple other "customers" were also arrested. That wasn't enough for him though. He and his father threatened one of the judges in the case. He also was caught with several illegal firearms. He went away to the Big House for the sex crimes, the threatening, and the weapons charges. As far as I know he's still in there.

Sad but true. The mask has been pulled from the faces of Trump's traitors.

It certainly turned racist when it became national and after Obama's election.

Racism is fearmongering, and fearmongering works...which is why extremes on both sides use it.

Within weeks, she said, the tea party movement in Texas was born.

It was a seed that quickly blossomed on the national stage with calls from grass-roots activists to cut federal spending, taxes and the size of government, and reduce the federal deficit. The movement burgeoned just as Democrat Barack Obama was moving into the White House.

Back in Texas, the tea party emerged as a decentralized movement that slowly expanded its focus to state government in Austin, even as a few Texas elected officials including then-Gov. Rick Perry joined their ranks to help bash federal overreach and the wasteful bureaucracy in D.C.

Now, with Republicans firmly in charge in both capitals, Texas' tea party activists are shifting their focus to the next phase in their evolution: as a political movement that is now an established insider power player at the Capitol, despite its historic outsider bravado.

Tea party caucuses have grown ranks in both the state House and Senate - the Freedom and Liberty caucuses, they are called - and Burton is now a senator in the chamber where staunch GOP conservatives are in charge, starting with the presiding officer, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.

There were certainly those elements, all of which dated back to the Southern Strategy.

Once the Cold War ended, both major parties scrambled to reinvent themselves. Democrats cut our defenses, both military and intelligence, setting the stage for 9/11. Republicans focused upon bigotry and xenophobia with anti-gay and anti-abortion rhetoric. Both parties become more extreme in effort to attract attention. Those in the center were left with choosing between two extremes. This is the seesaw that produced Donald J. Trump...not just once, but twice.

I think you will have a difficult time coping after the midterms.
Did you not disappear for months after the 2024 election?
desh; The Democrats are going the way of The Whigs.
Americans are sick to death of them and slimy RINOs like Mitt Romney and John McCain and Cheney.
We have to get representation back in Congress.
No more games. No more party bullshit. Democrats are now full-on Commies and illegals.
And RINOs vote for whatever gets their pocket greased the most.
That's not going to fly like an eagle in America.
