Jimmy Kimmel's Political Hackery : He isn't just a comedian

I think he's a comedian as well, just not one that I found to be very good personally. I was definitely more upset when they said that Colbert wouldn't have another season. Even so, I don't watch any comedian that much these days. I think I see some material from Colbert and John Oliver perhaps once or twice a month. I don't always agree with them, but when I don't agree with them, I can just stop watching if I wish.
Jon Stewart is the only leftist comedian that’s actually funny.

Seriously, can you tell something about Gutfelds comic history prior to his deplorable antics and piss-poor comedic attempts on Fox News? Was he a "stand-up", a writer or columnist? Inquiring minds want to know.
Did you miss the part about how I only watch Gutfeld when I am visiting my brother?

You are not all that bright.

I gave the example of John Stewart at least three times in this thread alone. I think the man is funny.
I give credit where credit is due. Stewart and Maher are funny leftists.
More so Stewart.
Kimmel, , Colbert, et al - horrible. I don’t know how even leftists can stand to watch them.

I gave the example of John Stewart at least three times in this thread alone. I think the man is funny. Colbert is better as a set up man, he'd set it up, Stewart would hit it out of the park... then he was alone and all he was was Olbermann, with more angry gestures...

As for "late night"... I stopped watching it when it became "hate night TV"... There's a reason I've never seen Gutfeld, it isn't because I've been desperately seeking late night comedy like it was a church or something.

(Because soon you will use it, here are a few extemporaneous instances of the word "Chronology"... chronology, the chronology, chronology, chronology, and a couple "of the posts"... of the posts, of the posts... feel free to spread them around often, even when there is no actual chronology).
The first two responses were fine. The last one was a butt hurt child wanting revenge. GTFU, will ya please?

In an interview after Kimmel’s show was pulled, Carr again cited his agency’s public interest obligation. Speaking with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Carr said: "We at the FCC are going to enforce the public interest obligation. If there’s broadcasters out there that don’t like it, they can turn their license in to the FCC. But that’s our job, and again we’re making some progress now."

Commissioner Carr did his job.

The FCC was mandated by Congress in 1934 to, in part, enforce the public interest obligation.

This is exactly what he did.

Lying about the political leanings of the murderer of Charlie Kirk is not in “the public interest.”

Charlie’s daughter is, I believe, three and the son is one.

They will miss Charlie but the full impact will be years later.

One wonders how long before the far left Democrats start a GoFundMe for the murderer.

Just received and read the news article that shares the title of this thread a bit ago. I thought it was quite good. Quoting the introduction and conclusion below:

One of the many problems with the legacy press is its consistent implication — hell, often outright insistence — that criticism from conservatives is not legitimate.

Friday’s piece from the New York Times mis/disinformation reporter Stuart Thompson is yet another example.

Another way to put it: The outrage isn’t legitimate because critics had to have been unduly influenced.

[snip]

There are legitimate questions and concerns about the role of the FCC and the Trump administration’s influence in Disney’s decision to put Kimmel on hiatus. This isn’t about that, and there is already plenty of coverage and appropriate scrutiny of that decision.

But what’s not being addressed enough is whether conservative outrage over Kimmel’s monologue is understandable.
Unequivically, the answer is yes — but it’s not just about what he said Monday: that “the MAGA gang” was “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

It’s about what Kimmel has been saying and doing for years. He is a tool of the Democratic Party. He doesn’t just use his show to push his politics, but tells people outright how they should vote. This 19-minute video from last October, titled “A Special Monologue for the Republican in Your Life,” is the height of obnoxiousness. He asks people to show the video to their Republican friends or relatives in an effort to convince them not to vote for Trump. To quote the retired football player formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, “Child, please.”

Then there are other bits, “joking” that people who don’t have the Covid vaccine shouldn’t get treated for a heart attack, implying that people should continue vandalizing Teslas, his ass-kissing of Democratic office holders on his show and letting people know they have his endorsement. He even helped what was then the Biden-Harris campaign in 2024 raise $30 million in one night by moderating a discussion with Biden and former President Barack Obama. These and other examples are in the video at the top of this post, which was also included in “America This Week.”

He has the right to do all this, of course (although Walter Kirn makes a compelling argument on ATW that he has violated the terms of an FCC license to broadcast on the public’s airwaves). My point is, the conservative public isn’t just pushing back against a simple comedian. They are pushing back against a partisan who has continually put them down. That’s politics, a game that Kimmel has willingly played.

Most people I know do not give a shit about "conservative outrage about Kimmel" (or anyone else). What is bothering them is that the moron in the Oval Office and his administrative donkey dicks are using the government to punish those who laugh at the moron's pretenses and excesses. (Good grief, that "speech" he gave at the royal banquet in England was so fucking boring and childish, how even his strongest supporters were not embarrassed is amazing.)

I do not feel true anger toward the pond scum who continue to support Trump or who feel his conduct is appropriate or desirable in a leader of our nation...my feelings are closer to pity for them. How can anyone feel true anger rather than pity for people so stupid that they willingly allow the corruption of a democracy they have an obligation to protect?

I have no idea of how we got to where we are right now as a nation, but I am made more comfortable with the fact that my current age of 89 has me closer to exiting-the-stage than I have been before the moron came along.

Where is the lie?

What is essentially being said is that many right-wing nut-cases were jumping to conclusions about the political leanings of the murderer...AND THEY WERE. We still do not know enough to determine definitively his leanings...which for most of his life seemed to be influenced by very right leaning parents and relatives.

Of course, it Depends.

Engravings on bullet casings recovered from the high-powered rifle believed used in the attack, including one that said, “Hey, fascist! Catch!” Cox said.

The murderer believed that Charlie Kirk, who helped President Trump win the presidency, was a fascist.

I don’t know any right wingers who believe that Charlie Kirk was a fascist.

It's like you can't understand English. If you think you cannot agree with someone you only read like every other word or something and fill in the rest with your own nonsense and think you make sense.

My point was some comedians that are funny are partisan hacks, and I even like laughing at crap I think is absurdly insane, talent really is talent, John Stewart is funny. You get from that what you "feel" which is "that Damocles guy, he only likes Gutfield..."

Personally I'm stunned that some dude on a pay channel is beating the network TV channels, every danged one of them. But I have literally never watched the show. Though I may start, his ratings are something that makes me think he may be funny.
He does it all the time. Two conversations from parallel universes. :ROFLMAO: Most of the time I look at his responses like....... WTF. Now Im down to just barely skimming his responses , soon I'll be just scrolling right on by. Just too nonsensical anymore.

I now have poor old Lurch at the level of Loonie Moonie and Dumber 76.
