Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm not talking about the hijakers, but weren't some of the 911 victims Muslim? If they are having religious edifices to the Jewish and Christian victims why not to our Muslim brothers? Weren't they victims too? Aren't we all the Children of Abraham?

In islam there is the "house of islam' or land controlled by islamic rule, and 'house of war', lands not controlled by islamic theocracy. This is our ruling elites signal to the terrorists that they will give up and accept islamic rule.

Islam is a noahide compliant religion. All elitists are fine with theocracy as a means of control.
 
I can't really see the problem.

If you want a cast iron guarantee that some Koran crazed terminator with a pilot's license isn't going make a return trip, i would have thought the presence of a mosque would be the best insurance policy money could buy.

And these two make a good point here. It's not fundamentalist Islamic terrorist we need to worry about. Oh sure, they do exist and they can cause devastating carnage from time to time but let's be honest. The probability of getting offed by by some fundamentalist Islamic terrorist is about as remote as winning the lotto.

Symbols matter, mott. Here we see jihadism being rewarded with a nice new mosque for their trouble.

This makes the terrorist cause look like it's succeeding, as the goal of it is to spread islam.

People who miscomprehend the creeping threats of theocratic totalitarianims, such as yourself, are the real threat to freedom.

I found this sentiment out in the blogosphere and I concur! BTW the plans are to construct it 2 blocks from ground zero, though they hope to inaugurate its opening on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

I have a simple, elegant, and deeply moral solution.

Let the Islamic Cultural Center be built. Let the mosque be included. But, the Muslim organizations building it should commit right now to making the principal focus of the building a museum depicting the rise of Islamic extremism, its hate-based agenda, and how it is an abomination to Islam.

Who could possibly object to Muslims coming together to create a museum condemning growing Islamic intolerance and call Osama bin Laden, Hamas, and Hezbollah what they are – perversions of Islam that are defiling and destroying a great world religion.

Are you serious? It's all radical. The entire religion IS RADICAL. Moderate islam is a joke. Islam justifies misrepresenting Islam to others in order to allow it to spread. It's called Taquiyah. There are no great world religions. They all are used to short circuit rational thought.
 
I have the only solution. Apply the 1st Amendment and keep government out of this.

It may seem indecent (it does to me), but it should never be illegal to build a religious center anywhere. If they own the property, and the zoning allows that type of building, it isn't the government's place to decide on the legality of it. If this was a Synagogue would we even be holding a conversation about it?

It is offensive, sure, but we have no right in this nation to be free from offense.
