All the fastest growing religions are fundamentalist. Whether it be pretty much all modern sripes of Islam (practically no one converts to truly moderate schools of Islam anymore) or fundamentalist Christianity. They claim to offer a direct line to god, something moderates are never going to be able to match. Moderates pretty much only exist because people know religion is full of shit and don't want to admit it anyway.

Yo man, this might not be common knowledge, but there are millions of Christians in the Middle East, and in Arab countries. The oldest Christian sects on the planet are there, and I’m pretty sure they have like a billion churches.

My theory on why you will never get Muslims to convert to Christianity is pretty simple. Eternal damnation. That sh*t is freaking scary! Billy Graham, Jerry Fallwell, Sarah Palin, and Pat Robertson are always blabbing about eternal damnation.

And let’s face it, eternal damnation is way uncool. Christianity is the only major religion that proclaims that once you go to hell, you’re stuck there forever.

Yikes, that would scare the bejesus out of any theocratic rube! I don’t even think the Jews have a similar concept of hell, and I know the Muslims don’t believe in eternal damnation. From what I gather, only the truly evil go to hell in Islam. And hell itself has different levels of damnation, depending on how bad a person is (republicans and Iraq war supporters, for example, I think get sent to the lowest circle of hell). But, after all the bad people are cleansed of their sins apparently everyone in hell eventually gets promoted back up to heaven. So I can see how that is way cooler than the risk of eternal damnation.

Maybe the lefty churches and the cool liberal churches, who aren’t constantly scolding people about burning in hell, can be our emissaries to the arab world? I really think the Pat Roberson/Sarah Palin contingent might freak a lot of people out.

A billion? I think you exaggerate, there are less than a billion Christians in those areas. Many charge an extra tax just for living there and being other than Muslim...
 
The largest population of Christians (per capita) in the Middle East would be in Lebanon, where Christians were once, slightly, the majority religion. Since their last civil war was fought on religious lines it is now a state secret how many of each religion there are, but it is believed that Christianity is now a minority religion there. They estimate that there are 1.35m-1.6m Christians in Lebanon about 34% to 41% (remember I said per capita, there are more in Egypt, but they are less of a percentage of the population).

Israel estimates 144,000-196,000 Christians, about 2.1 to 2.8% of the population.

In the West bank they estimate 40,000-90,000 about 1.1-2.4%.

Egypt:
Estimated Christians: 5.8m-11m
% Christian: 8-16%

Syria:
Estimated Christians: 970,000-1.7m
% Christian: 5.4-9.4%

Jordan:
Estimated Christians: 163,000-220,000
% Christian: 3-4%

Iraq:
Estimated Christians: 700,000-1m
% Christian: 2.7- 3.5%

Iran:
Estimated Christians: 79,000-400,000
% Christian: 0.1-0.6%

The Gulf Countries report few, if any, indigenous Christians, but they have higher foreign workers who are mostly Christians...

Seriously, why do you guys think that a mosque is being built there? Maybe it has something to do with Americans Muslims showing solidarity with their home country?

The reaction to this just proves to me how much blatant bigotry is still present in modern society.

My first thought when reading this was that's an interesting choice of locations to put a mosque. That's blatant bigotry to you?
 
I'm officially declaring this a good vs. evil issue. Those who oppose are to be labelled evil antihumans and hunted down and exterminated like the subhumans they are.
