New York mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani slams capitalism on CNN, cites MLK to defend socialism

You're a lying moron. :palm:

Following the October 7 Hamas attacks, Mamdani condemned Israel’s military response and joined protests calling for a ceasefire. Rather than condemning the attacks, he criticized those attacked.

He has also said he would arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he came to New York City, despite there being no arrest warrant for Netanyahu in the US

Mamdani drew controversy when he defended the use of the phrase “Globalize the intifada” as “a desperate desire for equality and equal rights in standing up for Palestinian human rights.”

 He thinks it proves that he's a terrorist sympathizer.

Jpost! :rofl2:

Yes, it was. It was similar to the one China has today. That is, it used Statist Capitalism. The state decided what and who would produce while business remained in the hands of private owners. He eliminated worker's unions because they were a threat to statist capitalism. If the workers could strike because of something the state decided about their employer, or about wages--set by the state--then they were a threat to the state.

Under statist capitalism, monopolies were allowed and licensed by the state. Businesses made what the state told them or allowed them to make. Some companies resisted this to their own detriment. In other cases, the state took over a business because it was poorly run or such. One example of that is Junkers Aircraft. The largest aircraft manufacturer in Germany at the time. The company was poorly managed and suffered under the Treaty of Versailles. The government stepped in and took over.

So, yes, it was a socialist economy, just not one in the traditional mold. If anything, the statist capitalist model has become the standard for socialist countries to use with the economy and business: Government control, private ownership.

In China the only way a union can exist today is if the government (Communist party) controls it. Same thing as the Nazis did in effect. They created a national worker's "front," the Deutsche Arbeitsfront which replaced independent worker's unions to which all German workers had to be members (membership was supposedly "voluntary" but you couldn't get a job if you weren't a member). In both it is a way for the government to control workers.
Only in the mind of a Trumper would Nazism be considered like China today. Only in the mind of a Trumper with an agenda to further the myth of Trump would anyone insist that Nazism was a socialist economy.

Stop drinking the Kool Aid, TA. You've had more than enough.

So it was a socialist version of capitalism?

The Nazi economy was, as are nearly all economies, mixed. Private property remained, private business entities remained, as long as they weren’t Jewish, socialist and social democrats were sent to concentration camps, labor unions were outlawed, even socialist literature and thought, was banned, hardly the work of a supposed socialist leader

Your understanding is wrong, too simplistic, and debunked by nearly everyone, well, except AM talk radio

New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani did not hide his opinion of capitalism on Thursday night, saying he disliked it and invoking Martin Luther King Jr. to bolster his position.

During an interview with CNN anchor Erin Burnett, Mamdani embraced his identity as a democratic socialist and said he has many problems with capitalism.

"No, I have many critiques of capitalism," he said in response to Burnett asking him if he likes it.

Mamdani secured the Democratic Party nomination for New York City mayor on Tuesday in an upset over former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and several other candidates.

Mamdani ran a campaign focused on making one of the country’s most expensive places to live more attainable for average residents. His proposals call for multi-year rent freezes and massive investment in public housing. Critics argue his proposals could worsen existing problems in the rental market. He has also taken criticism for not condemning the anti-Israel rallying cry, "Globalize the Intifada."

During his CNN appearance Thursday, Mamdani touted his plans to freeze rent and increase taxes on New York’s wealthiest residents. Burnett followed up by asking about him being described as a democratic socialist.

Which type of capitalism does this guy like? Make ancestries pay to rent space while naturally adapting to time here now or economic ideas nobody can decide who they are after birth without choosing sides of who's who social consensus defining how everyone left alive tomorrow dawn to dusk making decisions noon to midnight as tomorrow literally exists in every mind midnight to noon, not dawn to dusk 7 days a week 52 weeks a year.
