Oil Rig Explodes off LA Coast

As the CIC the President has the duty to direct the military to protect the resources of The United States. Since Congress has no authority to provide funding for environmental operations, the President then must look elsewhere for funding.

Can I get an article and section number?

Article II Section 2 for the POTUS; Article I Section 8 for Congress.

Here's Article II, Section 2:

The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States; he may require the opinion, in writing, of the principal officer in each of the executive departments, upon any subject relating to the duties of their respective offices, and he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.

He shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, judges of the Supreme Court, and all other officers of the United States, whose appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by law: but the Congress may by law vest the appointment of such inferior officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the courts of law, or in the heads of departments.

The President shall have power to fill up all vacancies that may happen during the recess of the Senate, by granting commissions which shall expire at the end of their next session.

Could you highlight the relevant language? Or is this a "the President can make the armed forces do whatever the hell he wants them to do" type argument?

Indeed the POTUS has broad powers, with the exception of spending. That's where Congress steps in. Haven't you read the Constitution?

The government has collected billions of dollars in royalties in return for BP to harvest the oil. Instead of putting that money to good use by establishing clean-up contingencies they have absorbed half of it into the Treasury then used the remainder to buy park lands and to dole out to the States.

Actually you're wrong. Congress has that authority under the Comprehensive Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA). They have the authorization to enforce compensation from Corporations, like BP, to clean up the messes they created. They also have the authorization under CERCLA to use Federal dollars to clean up said messes when either the responsible parties do not have the financial ability to clean up the mess or it is the federal government which is responsible for the mess.

The cap on BP's liability doesn't get them off the hook completely. Under that cap they are only limited to so much damage that can be paid from civil suits. This does not exempt them from CERCLA. Under CERCLA congress has the right to enforce BP and other responsible parties (such a Haliburton) to pay for the clean up of the mess they created.

Oh, and before you make a crack about CERCLA being some sort of commie liberal era law. It was signed into law by your hero Reagan.

So Obama had the authority and the resources yet did nothing but assign blame away from himself.

i think the question we need to ask is:

what is the overall pollution for natural seepage compared to oil production leaks over a long period of time....

i've seen studies that show natural seepage is far greater, but i'm sure cypress will immediately pounce that they are not peer reviewed...

so, since you guys are making the claim, please provide a study that you approve that shows overall pollution from natural seepage as compared to oil production includeing leaks....

?

any half way intelligent person can see i was asking about natural seepage compared to all oil production leaks....i wondered which produced more oil in the environment....

simple really...but its clear you tried to get some gotcha moment for onceler because he sure as hell couldn't find anything, so he marshals his lover to do his homework for him and what a spectacular failure

Good thread to bump. Another one that shows how Yurtsie runs & hides when he's busted on something, and then denies and distracts like a true nutter.

what did i deny? how did i run and hide? i addressed his question and its clear from your response that i was dead on....he tried, but failed, to do your homework for you...you still can't provide a single link to support your claim

poor onceler...

You've gotta read through the thread a bit there, Yurtsie - it's very embarassing.

But I'm starting to think that you can't comprehend what you read, or especially what you write, so it might not work for you...

lol...so you concede that post doesn't support your claim, rather, i must read through the thread

you still can't provide even one link onceler...you are dishonest because when you think you're right, you will go to the ends of the earth to provide a link....yet here, you can't provide a single link that someone said:

it was just like seepage for the first month or so...

just one link onceler...you claim it is in that thread....link it or stfu

I forgot that it's probably hard for you to read through a thread like this, what w/ the reading comprehension thing & all, Yurtsie.

My bad.
