Civil marriage isn't the same as religious marriage already. I don't really care if it's called a "civil marriage" or a "civil union". There just needs to be a legal system put in place to deal with these situations.

Again, read my proposal. That is exactly what I am suggesting. We remove government completely from the "marriage" business! There is no more issue regarding whether marriage is religious or civil, or whether this is a civil rights issue, or whether something is unfair on unequal to any group. It take ALL of that off the table forever. It solves the problem and settles the issue once and for all, and we can move on to bigger and better things to argue about. The gays are happy because they can get the benefits and perks they want, the religious people are happy because they can protect the sanctity of traditional marriage, and politicians are happy because they don't have to 'take sides' anymore. It's a Win-Win-Win for everybody.

The ONLY blowback I am getting, is from partisan hacks who just want the ISSUE because they get a lot of political mileage from it. The extremists on the right can continue to claim a moral 'high ground' and rally around that, and the extremists on the left can continue likening this to Civil Rights and bash the right with it. They enjoy having AN ISSUE, they don't care about, and are not interested in RESOLVING the issue, even if they get everything they want! It's amazing to me!

"...Government kowtowing to another special interest...."

As in Universal Health Care, Freddy and Fanny Mac, HUD, Food Stamps, the Civil Rights Movement, voting for women, Interracial marriages, etc.??

Why would you think UHC is a special interest?
Its for everyone, not a particular group.

Fannie and Freddie? Why would buying mortgages be a special interest...?
WTF are you talking about?

Civil Rights? Aren't civil rights for everyone?

Sufferage? Interracial marriage? Food Stamps?
The first 2 are nothing more than a miscarriage of justice .

Food Stamps are the only thing for a special interest, the poor and needy.
Not ALL programs for a special interest are wrong and certainly not a program for those in need of basic goods such as food...

Maybe you ought to take a break and rest you brain until you can be more rational....

And now like Dixie you get to not only define what something is or isn't; but you get to be the wherewithall for the voice of the nation. :good4u:

You just want to resolve it, to your own ends; you've just tried to hide your agenda in your pleas of "compassion" and "caring".

You have shown yourself as one who cares nothing about the Gay situation; because if you did, you would put aside your own personal bigotted feelings and work towards them having the ability to have legal same sex MARRIAGES, which would allow them the same rights and priviliges offered to those who aren't Gay.

Methinks thou doth protest to much and you should remove the plank from thy own eye first. :good4u:

Whatever you want to believe, jerk.

I have offered a solution that resolves the issue for ALL parties, and puts this to rest permanently, and you aren't willing to accept it. So be it!

I've explained why we just can't (AND WON'T) adopt marriage based on a sexual behavior or lifestyle. If you can't understand that, you need to work on your own bigoted perspective, I can't do anything about that for ya.

My solution allows everything you and the gay community claims to want, without denigrating religious customs and traditions, and without re-defining our laws and words, and basing them on sexuality. If you are opposed to that solution, and you can't really articulate a valid reason for your opposition, you are a bigot, a stubborn intolerant bigot, who will be marginalized in the end, as bigots always are.

Your inclusion of everything into the same variation now places you into the same category of those that object to certain sexual acts between hetrosexual couples.
Just thougth I'd point that out, to you.

Not at all....I have no way of knowing what couples do in the privacy of their homes and I don't want to know.....and I'm in no position to judge them....
Whether you like or not, or whether you agree with them or not,...there are social and even ethical morns and always have been...changing and in flux to be sure, but they exist nevertheless....

Well, when you tell us that things like civil rights and mortgage companies are only for special groups, you need to be corrected....

I'm still waiting on that "dissing God" explanation, Dixter...

What makes you think that this resolves the issue for ALL parties.
What about those that don't want their marriage considered to be a CU contract??

The fact that you were able to work the word "bigot" into the conversation, numerous times, doesn't make your view the truth. It only makes the fact that you are narrow minded, more obvious.

The presentation that you have to result to an increase in your name calling, just adds more to the idea that same sex marriages scare you; but you aren't going to be forced to marry that guy, just learn how to tell him NO and mean it. :good4u:

But I do agree and accept that the idea of norms change and this time they are going to allow and accept the legalization of same sex marriages. :good4u:

That's not true. I have two gay siblings. Both support gay marriage issues but both feel that in the grand scheme of things and our national priorities and common sense, it's about 300th on their list of priorities. It would be nice to have the same freedoms that we do and they advocate this.

Just because many gays are not activist on this issue does not mean they are not involved or supportive of it.

As an example. I'm not an environmental activist and never really have been but I am a deeply committed environmentalist.
That's probably true. Sure if the option was presented to them with no effort then they would support it. But as you said, its way down on their list of importance, and therefore a non-issue with respect to the public at large.

At the time of their beginning, they were.

No, they weren't....Blacks didn't demand civil rights for themselves at the expense of anyone else....they were demanding the same rights as everyone else, they wanted nothing special....like I said, take a break and stop making an ass of yourself.

I have to agree. Like abortion it's pretty much a non issue to me.

Killing people never is.
No, it's just that I feel our current abortion laws are acceptable regardless of what the Vatican says. Therefore I have bigger fish to fry.

Besides, like gay rights and gun rights, it's a great big political boogey man that Politicians use to scare morons into voting for them.

Or to be a little more direct. If you've ever voted specifically for or against a politician based solely on their position on gay rights, abortion rights or gun rights, your a niave political fool who doesn't have the wit to realize you're being manipulated so you won't think about really important issues.

Those protesting were asking that the rights of all people of color be respected and now Gays are asking that the rights of all GAYS be respected, no matter their color.

Your refusal to accept this, speaks more of your beliefs then it does mine.

Well, a women can get an abortion for any reason, at any time, up to and including the babies birthday....

You can't get any more acceptable than that....:palm:
