Tea Party speaker recalls American patriots words

Wow talk about hissy fit. LOL

I am a resident of Alabama. I was subjected to the hypocrisy of that man's acts. And now you want to make it sound as though his words have meaning and should be argued or accepted on their own merits?

I am passionate about what Roy Moore did. I took an oath a long time ago to defend the US Constitution. I don't recall the oath saying anything about a time limit.

Perhaps the US Constitution is something you can toss aside whenever it is politically expedient to do so, but its not how I work.

This is not a hissy fit. This is condemnation of a many who desecrated the Alabama Supreme Courthouse, defied a higher court, ignored the US Constitution, and was removed from office for his actions.

The irony here is that Tom Paine was the most explicitly anti-Christian founding father. He was definitely a deist, and a lot of people think he was hiding atheism. He was also the first person to propose a welfare state. Again, seeing the far right tories quote an American patriot like Paine sickens me. Paine would've spat on them.

Paine was an atheist, and was hardly a founding father.

He was indeed probably an atheist. But he was a founding father. His pamphlet "Common Sense" was one of the widely read pieces that attempted to stir the masses to revolution.

That was about all he did. He quickly abandoned the American Experiment, and went to France, where he played a more significant role, until he got put in prison. Basically, he was the Che Guevera of his age. The other Founders disagreed with his arguments in Common Sense, and Adams' Thoughts on Government was partially intended to refute Paine...

How was Paine an atheist? All we have are suspicions. Like most founders, he was only definitely a deist.

He's my favorite founder though. He tried to make the French revolution work. He worked with the "conservative" factions. But the Jacobins won out and started the reign of terror. He was lucky he wasn't executed. Imagine if he had actually won out, though, how much better a place France would be today. I don't fault him for his work in France either.

He was also one of the first people to support abolition of the death penalty, which he did in France when they were unjustly trying to execute King Louis XIV.

The Ten Commandments are hardly a freaking desecration you hysterical girl!

Yes it is. The man waited until the middle of the night and then installed a 2.5 ton granite monument with the 10 commandments in the lobby of the state supreme court. He then refused to allow any other decoration in the lobby. That is effectively selecting a single religion for the state's highest court.

It is blatantly unconstitutional.

Then, when he lost his case before a higher court, he refused to obey the order to have the monument removed. In effect, he said that his court expected people to obey its rulings, but would not obey the rulings of a higher court.

It galls me to no end that people who claim to be conservative, talk about following the US Constitution, will then make excuses for this man's actions.

Nice to see you admit that you're having a hissy fit. Now if you can only admit that you projected yours onto me...

Anyone not throwing a hissy fit over what Roy Moore did cannot possibly call themselves a conservative.

I see you still have no actual argument.

Actually, anyone throwing a hissy fit over the man's politics is a hissy. And then you accuse me of doing what you do.

Ugh... Anybody who respects what we built here, instituted under a constitution, would not cheer on this jackass.

They should attack his message then. :)
Who gets a place gets to speak for them is a clear indication of the message they want to promote.

This "national TEA Party convention" was a mistake, they've worked hard to institute what was a movement into something it shouldn't be.

Over $400 admission? Talks from party hacks and social conservative wonks? Whomever put this shindig on is directly working to wreck what was started.

There is currently a thread on this board talking about Pete Townsend of the Who.

You did not comment on his music (as was the thread's basis), you made it about him and his conviction. I happen to agree with not supporting a convicted sex offender. But the hypocrisy of you doing exactly what you want to attack me for doing is insane.

And what Roy Moore did as a state supreme court justice is part of his message. The fact that he talked about Obama being unfit to lead this nation, after being removed from his judicial position for grossly violating the US Constitution IS part of the message.

If the source of the message is not to be considered, then you need to toe the same line you expect others to toe.

Well said, Damo. I agree with you. In fact, I recall posting a thread about that very objection to Moore being a featured speaker.

Solitary's got an obvious hard-on for The Southern Man. :palm:

Your fantasies notwithstanding, I post to refute bullshit and to bring the light of truth on various topics. That you seem to be one of the biggest violators of this is not my problem.

But if you want to talk about personal reasons for attacks, perhaps you have some excuse for why you avoid the topic and make it about me instead?

Plus, your posts at the beginning of the Werewolf game show your propensity for making this about me personally instead of about a topic of debate.
