Im a financial analyst by trade. My first corporate job. I have done the closing stuff but I have also done many many other things, ABC costing, Client profitability, Compensation and commissions, HR and hiring, metrics, stock trading, Insurance, high-tech, financials, off-shoring, future corporate direction decision making, acquisitions, international expansions... the list goes on in on.. put it this way its all in how you steer you career.. Hell right now i am managing tech writers, hr hiring manager in group, publishing our groups content, and the financial part of my job which is metrics and adhocs.

Oh and I work from home 2 days a week.

I think there also #2 in prison ranks for white collar criminals.

Accounting also has one of the highest burn out rates. Most of the people I knew from college who got accounting degrees burned out and went into something else. Some had to because the stress was literally killing them.

Welder is listed among the worst jobs, lots of welders find it facinating. Me not so much.

That depends on what kind of welder you are. Most welders suffer from long term exposure to smoke, dust and UV light exposure. Not good. Being a garden variety welder can be a pretty sucky job too. But I've worked with some Fabricators (ala Jesse James) and those guys rock. There some of the most creative and in demand tradesmens I know.

I know what you mean. My father is a Chiropractor and people are always saying "Oh, you're not a real Doctor then?"

What's the old saying? Find something you love to do and believe passionately in and you'll never work a day in your life. That's kinda the approach I take to my work. I could make more money on the business end but I make a very good living doing what I do. I love what I do and enjoy it immensly and I probably won't die young from stress induced heart disease at 48 either.

Work around is get a degree where jobs dime a dozen and work load is light enough so you can post on JPP and instead of positing pursue your hobbies. To many kids think they should just be able to do what they love right from the getgo.. that is not a responsible or realistic thing for a parent to teach.

Fuck that. I say chase your dreams with all the god given talent, passion and energy you can muster and success will find you. Or let me put it another way. I work my job. My job doesn't work me. :)

Absolutely. I turned my back on the corporate finance jobs, including the actuarial work I did for 3 years (that was the only part I liked) for the abject poverty of a student's life. I love biology/physiology, I love being challenged with problem solving situations every day, I love the practical challenges to my creativity, and would never, ever consider going back to an office, no matter how much it might pay!

Well before corp finance I was a bartender in a top rated nightclub, I think I may open a Tike/Rastafarian bar in the Key's when I retire.

Same with Chiropractors and you dont see them killing themselves.
