I think you need 218.
It's 217 because they are 2 members short of a full house. But yeah, in order to "win" you have to actually get 50% plus one.
I think you need 218.

He "won" all the previous speaker votes too before McCarthy, thankfully pluralities aren't good enough to net you the job, ay?

Mr. Tiny Penis, you prove yourself to be nothing but an empty suit.
Hakeem Jeffries 212 votes
Gym Jordan 200 votes
Democrats have won a plurality. Republicans could push Jeffries over the top.
Could, but I'm betting against it. Even if that happened, Jeffries would be the Speaker for a House majority of Republicans. He would end up taking all the blame and few, if any, of the victories.
The Republicans need to unfuck themselves and find a sane Speaker. Apparently, that's a lot more difficult than it appears.
I just do not see a way the Republicans can even find a Speaker, much less a sane Speaker.

I think you could get 212 Democrats and five Republicans to make Liz Cheney speaker.
You see that is actual coalition thinking.
I would not like Liz Cheney's conservatism, but she has proved to be fair minded.

What parts didn't you like? To some extent she simply parroted the Party line just like Biden does at times. All politicians have to cater to their constituents to win reelection. What was remarkable about Liz Cheney is that she had a hard limit: the Constitution.
Don't expect the MSM to make much of his being Black and the first Black Speaker because he's in the wrong party for that sort of thing to be celebrated...
Most of that is party line BS. Also factor in a dislike for omnibus bills. Still, she stood by the Constitution when it counted even to her own political detriment. Most Republicans did not. Based on that, I think she'd always do the right thing.I'm pretty sure she voted against Biden's infrastructure bill, climate change bill, economic stimulus bill. She undoubtedly didn't like Obamacare, the medicaid expansion, and if she had had her way would probably seek to privatize social security.
She would probably be decent on foreign policy
