Yah. It's going to be chaos for months to come. I don't know why the country has any patience for today's GOP. We got to get rid of the primary system. It just results in more extreme candidates on both sides.

The primary system is internal to the parties. What federal election law do you propose to dictate how the parties select their candidates?

FWIW, the Democrats got in trouble in 2020 for the appearance of corruption when Hillary literally bought her nomination. The Republicans got into trouble in 2020 when, using democracy, they ended up with Trump instead of Jeb!.

Right now there are two paths forward for the GOP in the Speaker battle:

1) Elect Rep. Jim Jordan Speaker of the House, an actual conservative who already has support from most of the Republican conference, as well as the voters, and get back to doing what Americans elected a GOP majority to do, holding the Biden admin accountable.

2) Give expanded powers to Rep. Patrick McHenry with support from a handful of RINOs, Hakeem Jeffries, and the rest of the Democratic Caucus. Continue to fund all of Biden's unpopular priorities that led to Republicans winning the House in the first place while telling conservatives to go shove it.

Republican voters overwhelmingly support one.

DC lobbyists and special interests overwhelmingly support the other.

Jordan vows to press on with House speaker vote after GOP rejects interim plan
Republican Rep. Jim Jordan is vowing to press on with his bid to become the next speaker of the House after a plan he supported to temporarily empower the interim speaker was met with opposition from his fellow GOP lawmakers on Thursday.

Republicans met on Capitol Hill to chart a path forward after Jordan fell short of the 217 votes needed to become speaker in the first two rounds of voting earlier in the week. Plans for a third vote earlier in the day were abandoned. Jordan told colleagues he would support a proposal to allow Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry to oversee the House until January while he remained in the race and tried to muster support.

But that idea was met with stiff opposition from dozens of GOP lawmakers and Jordan soon reversed course, saying he would instead move forward with another floor vote, perhaps as early as Thursday.

"We made the pitch to members on the resolution as a way to lower the temperature and get back to work. We decided that wasn't where we're going to go," he told reporters. "I'm still running for speaker and I plan to go to the floor and get the votes and win this race." ...
