Gun barrel-stroker stood his ground

A 62-year-old man officiating a Nebraska wedding accidentally shot his grandson before the ceremony over the weekend, officials said.

Somebody forgot the wedding rings, so the Saturday ceremony started late and the guests were spread out at the Hillside Events venue in Denton, Lancaster County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said. Michael Gardner, 62, decided to get everybody's attention and "start the wedding with a bang" by shooting a revolver into the air outside.

"When he decided to cock back the hammer on this revolver, it slipped and it shot his grandson in the left shoulder, causing an injury," Houchin said.

Both Gardner and his grandson are from Texas and they were in Nebraska for the wedding, officials said.

Odds are he fancies himself a second amendment patriot, and teaches gun safety classes to youths in Nebraska.

What a horrible, horrible thing. What kind of sick motherfucker brings a loaded gun to a WEDDING anyways? Especially one that he is officiating.

Thank the gods the boy wasn't killed.

Nothing really that surprising here.

The odds of an accidental shooting or the gun being used on a family member, neighbour or friend, or suicide, dwarf that of it being used to 'protect good guys from bad guys'

It puts the lie to any argument that society is safer with more guns.

then why does government mandate that law enforcement agents carry them??????

then why does government mandate that law enforcement agents carry them??????

Herp derp, herp derp.

Is that a serious question.

Police have all sorts of restriction on gun use. Must be locked up when not in service. Must be holstered. Police must have training.

Derps carrying them casually to weddings, or to Walmart, etc is exactly why the incidents of accidents happen and the incidents of family/friend/neighbor conflict happen.

you're wrong on a few things here.........police are NOT required to keep them locked up when not in service. Must be holstered applies to everyone, not just police, and the training that police receive on firearms is MINIMAL, at best. I have more training that most police officers. Law enforcement also has as many, if not more, accidents with their firearms than citizens do...............

so, besides your idiocy of the 'derp' bullshit, violence can happen anywhere, even at weddings and walmart.........tell us why you think that government must be allowed to provide for their own defense, yet supposedly free Americans must remain defenseless?????

Nobody gives a shit about your training and you saying 'you have more training' has no bearing on the masses of people acquiring guns at their local retailer, who have no training. So take you herp derp logic the fuck out of here.

And you will need to provide some links and data that Police have more accidents with guns than average citizens do.

And i am not saying average citizens need to be defenseless. I am simply pointing out the FACT that as gun numbers increase in the US, all citizens become less safe, and not more safe. When average citizens bring a gun in their home, trying to increase their safety, the FACT is they just made their home FAR LESS safe, and the chance of death via gun shot goes WAY UP.

So average home owners lie to themselves, telling them they are making their family more safe when the opposite is true. If the average family wants to protect their family the best thing they can do is not bring a gun into the house.
