They voted on party lines. They would rather the House be shut down than the republicans be able to pass a working budget in 45 days, they think they can "blame it on the republicans"... however they voted to shut down congress today, every D in congress voted with 8 republicans to literally shut down work in the House of Representatives.

If Republicans need to get the House they are in charge of up and running, maybe 8 of them will find a way to vote for Hakeem Jeffries and get this moving.

That is about as likely as Democrats voting for Kevin McCarthy.

IMO, the people who are speaking calmly are most likely telling the truth and the people screaming with righteous indignation are most likely lying. Agreed about committees. I'm not sure where the lines are drawn on the Speaker. In many ways it would likely be an impasse with Jeffries acting as a shit screener.

Gaetz has been living it in since the election. This is his endgame, not opening game. This is the chaos MAGAts want; to erode the Federal government and make it dysfunctional enough that it's effectively destroyed.

Even if the Republicans can cobble together enough votes for a new Speaker, will that Speaker be as hobbled as McCarthy? Will We, the People see this circus replayed in less than 45 days?
