Ohio police shoot pregnant woman

Please accept my condolences for the loss of your mother. My mother is 96 and has had stage 4 cancer for the last few years. She gets these cancer shots every month, and it's keeping it at bay.
She lives alone and does all her bills by herself. She is very independent. I take her to all her Dr. and testing appointments, the GF takes her to the grocery store. She likes riding in my Cobra. I take her to her favorite drive-in a few times a year.
:good4u:

Well she suffered with dementia but until her last 6 weeks she was able to live in her own home with my younger brother. She did have to move to a nursing home in the end and she was not happy but before that she was happy and she always knew who I was. I would give her Alexa video calls every few days and show her her great grand kids and that always got her motor revving. She was 92 when she passed. I was extremely fortunate to have her as long as I did. I always say I won the parent lottery when I got my parents.
There's nothing more wonderful than winning the parent Lottery... and yes... you were blessed to have her for such a wonderfully long time...

Once, when I was on vacation, I witnessed something that I would never, ever see in Boston.

I will preface my comment by saying
that when we're on vacation,
we're NEVER at some rented cottage or bungalow
where we might cook some of our own meals.

That's not our kind of vacation,
not that there's anything at all wrong with it.

We're at a hotel, and we eat all of our meals out...
usually all dressed up for the evening one.

What brought me to a superette
is that it was right downtown
and I wanted some antacid tablets.

What I saw was a young store employee attempting to tackle a shoplifter.

I should have held my mouth
but I couldn't help it.

"Kid, do they actually pay you enough to pull a stupid stunt like that?'

The boy just looked at me stupidly.

In the store? Silly kid...

I don't go quite that far,
but I will confess to always returning my cart to the designated cart corral.

My parents always did it when I was a kid,
and while I don't do everything that my parents did,
that little courtesy seems to have stuck.

Wayward carts can dent cars
bodywork is hideously expensive
and most people have a deductible.

I rarely extend effort
without having some sort of understanding
why.

And that's exactly why I speak to people if they're just abandoning one...if their car is got dented they'd have a fit... and if one is just sitting there it's usually blocking a parking space it's just easy to return it to the designated area...

At the exit.

Some young people take a bit longer than others to figure things out,

but if he got hurt by trying to be a minimum-wage hero,

I, like most people, would have hated to see that.

They (employees)don't do that anymore.. I'm pretty sure there's a rule that says they aren't allowed.. they have to contact a manager or security..but there's an officer at every entrance and exit at our store... and all kinds of alarms... I don't think every Kroger's does that but ours is in an area where it's necessary... I would say at least every third time I'm at the grocery someone is getting stopped... (and just a comment on the cart kid becoming a manager it does happen...lol... one of our students who started out bagging...and doing carts... is now one of the general managers...same store...bet that's triple points....;))

I would hope not. And triple points seems about right.

The only time I remember having cops stationed at the supermarkets was to enforce covid rules at the height of the pandemic.
It wasn't just mask mandates but also the number of customers allowed in the stores at the same time was restricted.
They let people in as others came out.

The stores also opened an hour or two early only for "high risk" customers over the age of sixty.
I was a hell of a lot older than sixty,
and I'm sad to say that nobody questioned my right to go in early.:o

I'm not aware of any incidents, though.
If there were any, they weren't big enough to make the local news.

Boston people tend to be rowdy and can be uncooperative if offended
but in an identity politics situation,
they want to appear on the right side.

I'm sure there are places where relative polite and constrained people
put on a fuss for the exact same reason.

Moron, she hit him and lifted him off his feet.

This is what it looks like when people really get rammed by a car, they're not just lifted off their feet. The pic is from the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.

If you're reduced to trashing character, let's look at Ashli Babbitt's character. Let's talk about her smashing her car into another one out of spite and jealousy, and her multiple no-contact orders by that victim. Her record's not all that different from Ta'Kiyah's, huh.

"In 2016, she faced criminal charges of reckless endangerment in Maryland after she repeatedly smashed her SUV into a vehicle being driven by a former girlfriend of Aaron Babbitt.[SUP][18][/SUP][SUP][25][/SUP] Citing ongoing harassment, the victim obtained multiple judicial orders forbidding Ashli any contact with her.[SUP][25]

[/SUP]On July 1, 2019, a judge issued a $71,000 judgment against her pool business for failing to repay a loan; around the same time, she supported Donald Trump and started following and promoting conspiracy theories.[SUP][20][/SUP] In November 2019, Babbitt tweeted about Pizzagate, a conspiracy theory that senior Democrats were operating a child sex-trafficking ring.[SUP][27][/SUP] By February 2020, Babbitt publicly supported QAnon, a broader far-right conspiracy theory that expanded Pizzagate's claims by adding the concept of a worldwide cabal of Satan-worshipping child abusers whom Trump is secretly fighting.[SUP][28][/SUP][SUP][29][/SUP][SUP][30][/SUP] One customer recalled having stopped doing business with the company in 2020 after Babbitt unexpectedly delivered a political rant over the telephone.[SUP][31][/SUP]

Starting the car and putting it in gear was loading a deadly weapon. Killing people is a known consequence of hitting them with a car. Regardless of why he was detaining her, when she put the car into gear it was the same action as cocking a pistol. He had every right to pull his weapon in self defense at that time regardless of the reason for detention.

Even cops have a right to defend their own life.

Pulling a gun on an alleged SHOPLIFTER is beyond the pale. That's the main point that all of you are willfully ignoring. Nobody here approved Ta'Kiya's decision to stay in the car and ignore the cops but better cops could have handled the situation properly. What kind of idiot stands in front of a running vehicle and points a gun at the driver's head? The tragedy writes itself here. Idiot cop was lifted off his feet while the pregnant woman in the car is dead. His initial reaction was completely out of proportion to the alleged crime, and he should lose his job for being so completely stupid.

She ran her car into him and endangered his life it was a righteous shoot. She was not shot for shoplifting moron, she was shot for striking a cop with her car on purpose. Maybe you should try to run over a cop and see what happens to you.

Right from the beginning no gun should have been pulled for this alleged shoplifting. You're willfully ignoring the main point here.

Agreed. The police should have de-escalated the situation, not escalated it into a fatal shooting.

IMO, the officer will not, and, IMO, should not, keep his job after this. The city is liable for the training of their officers and the killing of all citizens within their juridiction.

She wasn't executed, she was shot and killed, after she tried to run over a police officer. Probably, because, besides the shoplifting, she knew she had a warrant for her arrest.

All she had to do was get out of the car, obviously she was able to do so, she got out to go into the store then she was able to get back in.

When a cop points a gun at you it’s probably a good idea to listen to what he has to say!

Her “I’M A NEEEGRO” let me go defense didn’t work!

By your logic Ashli should have been killed because she rammed into her love-interest competition's car. She also had multiple no-contact orders from the same woman; guess she wasn't smart enough to comply with the first one.

Was her love interest competition a cop and standing in front of her car? You are devoid of logic.

When she started her car and refused to get out . Guns ABSOLUTELY should have been drawn. You're willfully ignoring the main point here.

The main point is that no guns should be drawn over SHOPLIFTING, and you've absolutely refused to acknowledge that. You're just committed to defending this cop's overreaction to a misdemeanor. It's painful to see all the excuses you guys are making over this woman's murder.

If the accused shoplifter is black, apparently lethal force is indicated, if you are a Reichwinger. Black shoplifters warrant death, but a bloated orange wannabe-dictator who instigates an attack on our Capitol in an attempt to overturn an American election is "innocent."
