“It’s a Race Against Heat, and Humanity Is Losing”

“A recent study from the Climate Impact Lab finds that by 2100, heat alone could kill as many people as now succumb to heart disease, humanity’s biggest killer.”

“While temperatures can vary from one year to another, the trend is clear: Nine of the 10 hottest years on record have happened during the 21st century.”

“Even the Cold Places Are Hot Now. The Arctic is warming faster than the rest of the world. Parts of Siberia experienced temperatures 10C above average in May”

“Oceans Take In More Heat. While temperature records on land usually grab most of the headlines, Earth’s most dramatic warming is happening at sea. The oceans’ ability to capture and store carbon dioxide stopped keeping pace with emissions in the 1990s. A report published in June concluded that the oceans’ sponge-like capacity will keep diminishing”

But, but, but, China ain’t doing anything, Gore flys in a superjet, and of course, “temperature can’t be measured,” anything but recognizing the reality, man made climate is real and we are seeing the results daily

Water temps around Key West broke 100 degrees. The last time that happened was never. Tropical disease will migrate north. Malaria will b a big deal. But only if you believe in it. If you say it is not real, it cannot harm you or your family.

Not knowing, sand and sun were never my thing, does the water temperatures affect the number of people flocking to the beach? If the water is warm doesn’t it defeat the purpose of going there? Just asking

I envision a decade or two from now all those people that ran away to warmer States will be returning north

You've said before though many who leave the North do so because they can't hack it economically. Is the North going to do anything vis a vis cost of living to allow those folks to return?

Allow is a strange word, if you mean attract, probably not, they will return because they can’t stand the heat, humidity, and accompanying economic effects, plus, the State itself will be the draw, a more temperate climate

By allow I mean make it economically viable. If you leave an area because you can't afford it how would one expect to return if economic conditions (cost of living) remain the same in the future?

I'll offer a local example. Black people in Oakland on Facebook often write "Don't Sell Grandmas House" (a lot of black folks who have owned for a long time are cashing out and leaving) because once you do you'll never be able to afford to live here again. So for those who leave the North who can't afford it how will they come back short of having made a bunch of money elsewhere (which isn't likely to happen)?

Won’t be for economic reasons they are returning, nor will the State do much to accommodate them economically, climate is the motivator, they just can’t stand the heat and humidity, all those snowbirds will forget their annual trek

Your claim before was many people leave the north because they can’t hack it economically. So if they left because they couldn’t afford it, how are they going to afford it in the future? (if you can’t afford it, you can’t afford it. Doesn’t matter if you like or dislike the weather where you moved too.)

True, many did, actually I was quoting the Sinatra song, but they will return the best they can, they will return, and with the economic effects of the heat and humidity, for many, economically, it will be best to return

It will Decimate the coral reefs in Florida

A huge die off

The alligators will be fine though

It’s going to become a dying landscape full of heat and humidity

Not very attractive anymore

What a horrible waste

What horseshit

They leave to Fl because they retire

More rich people retuning will only push the lower classes out, so those who left for economic reasons likely aren’t returning no matter how much they may desire too.

There won’t be much of the things that people move to Florida to seek left

What happens when all the coral reefs die?

What a horrible waste

We've basically known since the 1990s that human emissions of heat-trapping GHGs were going to warm the planet.

Exxon scientists knew in the 1970s.

Republicans have intentionally allowed climate change become an existential threat.

It's a shame that Republicans are going to make Florida unlivable.

All the wealthy Republicans are still moving to Florida

They have already changed it for ever with their lies

Such a waste of a beautiful state

Then where will they move?

The coral reefs protect the coast as well as create natural beauty that brings tourism to this state

The coast will not only be too hot for tourism but the beaches will wash away all the time

Any coastal homes will be undermined and eventually destroyed

The alligators will be fine though
