Bob Tasca III set a new electric-vehicle drag racing record on June 26. In the morning, he piloted the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 to a run of 8.26, 167 mph during an exhibition pass at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. Hours later, Tasca re-set the record with a stunning run of 8.12 at 171.97 mph. Tasca is also the driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang in NHRA Nitro Funny Car

Electric motors provide instant torque and spin much faster than ICE's, But those electric motors need a lot of "juice." That means a strong battery.

But they just don't sound like a moderately cammed big block.

No matter how 'strong' (read; large) the battery is, you still have to charge it.
It takes twice as long to charge a 100Mj battery than it does to charge a 50Mj battery.

Please teach me how Li-ion chemistry is now (supposedly) obsolete/inapplicable... After all, YOU have this knowledge, and I wouldn't want to inadvertently stumble across any "misinformation" along the way...

Heh. You ARE asking someone that routinely discards the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics. He believes in perpetual motion machines!
