This is coincidental, not causative, as your reference to "a cultural problem" suggests. Most large cities have Democratic administrations because their policies tend to be economically friendlier. The fewer large cities with GOP administrations suffer similar gun violence. You're comment regarding gun control law not working is also incorrect. See link in above post.

Disagreed on the logic of why most cities lean Democrat. IMO, it's that Democratic ideology works better in high density population areas. "Group think". Rural areas favor Republican ideology; Individualist.
Although I'd like to see the comparative data on the subject, it could also simply be a factor of high density population dynamics. Specifically American high density population dynamics since the Chinese don't seem to have as much of a problem of inner city violence.
Stripping innocent Americans of their rights because of what they might do is wrong. It's classic Democratic Party ideology to believe they know what is best for everyone and seek to impose it upon everyone under the full weight of the Federal government.
It's not the gun laws, it's one of two cultural problems: gang culture and a culture that doesn't make mental health care a top priority.

In that sense, the right guns laws would definitely curtail mass murders. Gun deaths go with our level of freedom [so should abortions],

Your first argument about the different cultural environments of cities is the correct one, in my opinion, not laying this political ideology. Is "Republican ideology" responsible for Red states having more gun violence overall than Blue states?

Many, if not most, younger urban residents don't give a thought to politics. They don't register to vote, mainly because they believe that that is how the courts get lists of people to call for jury duty. They can't afford to take off work for jury duty. But it's a favorite Reichwing myth that all urban (i.e. Black) citizens are "liberals" and "Democrats."
It's interesting that law enforcement officers (who tend to be conservative) in urban areas strongly support tougher gun control laws, no matter what race they are.
