Supreme Court Ruling on Student Loan Forgiveness

I know this guy that can make payments on two jet skis a motorcycle a ski boat...

But refuses to make a his student loan payment

He was able to get the job he has because of the college he went to that was paid for by loans... But refuses to make payments.... But he can pay $2,500 for front row tickets to a concert

This kind of thing is rather common, unfortunately.

The US should develop a QUALITY 4 year college online that is free. The first two years of courses should be transferable to any college that accepts federal money or school loans. It would lower the cost of education and make education more available to those that don't live near a college or University.

TANSTAAFL. Nothin's free. Websites cost money. Servers cost money. Writing the course material costs money. Writing and maintaining the software to run such a site costs money.

Where's that money coming from? The taxpayers? Yet another unfunded liability pair for with loans or printing money?

I suggest you go talk to Canadians and discover just how much they are paying through the nose for their 'free' healthcare, which is terrible, and is even now encouraging euthanasia as 'health care'.
Where is the incentive to produce a quality website or the course materials?

No, communism doesn't work.

In no way is this type of activity exclusive to Democrats. Just in this particular case it happens to be about them.

The court ruling isn't surprising as even Nancy Pelosi said in 2021 that the President doesn't have the power to cancel student debt, it has to go through Congress.

Since root cause is a favorite word in certain circles the best way to deal with student loan debt is dealing with the ever rising cost of college. That's a separate discussion though.

Congress has no authority to pass such a law either. See the 14th amendment.

If some students get to attend the college effectively for free, then ALL students must have ALL their education expenses compensated, not just the ones that took out student loans.

I agree, I posted the article because I was banned from Biden’s thread and wanted to reply.

The Republicans aren’t interested in helping the 99%.

99% of what? It sure as hell isn't helping me, it's having me pay for lazy students. Screw that. Pay your bills.

Biden got the millennial vote because of this "free ride." What "free ride" debt will they want forgiven next?
Maybe credit cards? Auto loan payments? Mortgages? Veterinarians? I pay my bills, you pay yours.

Short sighted and stupid decision. The next Congress, which will be fully controlled by Democrats, will pass student loan forgiveness. It would be a huge boost to slowing economy. But this is more about ideology than practicality.

Even Nancy Pelosi said the President doesn't have the power to do it unilaterally, it needs to go through Congress.

I'm not saying anything we don't know, Biden knew what he was doing. He had a section of his base demanding action on this and he gave it to them. He likely knew the courts would likely strike it down but from a political perspective that's irrelevant. He has received credit for his actions and can now blame the courts.

I agree. This becomes an political issue that will benefit the Dems in the next election. Not that they needed any more, but they won't look a gift horse in the mouth.

At this point, blaming SCOTUS translates directly to blaming Donald J. Trump. And Trump is dumb enough to brag about it. How did this dude stay out of jail and in business for this long? It's beyond me. He appears to have the intellect of a fifth grader. And that is not hyperbole.

nice to see libs adapting the ideology of corporate welfare, because passing student loan forgiveness is exactly that and any other excuses or explanations is just semantic bullshit

you do realize that, at this very moment, you are criticizing the SCOTUS and Trump for following the Constitution, right?

No, it's an economic stimulus that will be incredibly effective. Your economic acumen is sorely lacking.

Eh, on one hand sure. If we just starting erasing debt from people (credit card, auto, home etc.) they would have more money to spend elsewhere. But that's not a sustainable economic model.

And erasing student loan debt today does nothing to address the real issue, the exponentially rising cost of college and would actually help contribute to its growth.

I view those as two completely separate issues. Your analogy doesn't fully work because credit card debt, etc. is dischargeable in bankruptcy, student loan debt is not. That said, the real issue is the for profit tuition/student loan business. We should not be educating the rich, we should be educating those who are best suited for those roles that require higher education. There is a legacy belief that a college degree translates to higher earnings over a lifetime. That is seldom true in this day in age, especially for liberal arts degrees.

I came from a single income mechanic family. So I didn't have an economic advantage in fact my father's supervisor was black. I paid back all my loans and paid for my kid's and my niece's educations. So remind me again why I should pay for some lawyer's Harvard education. I'm not seeing it.

Indeed! One hundred percent.

I agree with you completely regarding the bolded. The ROI on certain degrees at high priced schools isn't all that much. Companies and the government also require degrees for positions that really don't need them. There's a reason more kids are reconsidering the college route.

This may not be a bad thing for Biden, now the Right can't say that he wasted all this money, and Biden can go to the students and say that he tried but the far right torpedoed it, so don't vote for the right.
