Supreme Court Ruling on Student Loan Forgiveness

“The Supreme Court’s rejection on Friday of President Biden’s student debt relief plan instantly unravels one of the president’s signature efforts and ratchets up the pressure on him to find a new way to make good on a promise to a key constituency as the 2024 presidential campaign gets underway.”

It’s a shame we can bail out banks and Wall Street, forgive PPP loans to the rich, but can’t help college students.

Nobody has ever explained to me why the kid who went to vocational school and paid for it now has to pay for the guy making more money than he does. Or the guy who graduated high school and didn't go into college, worked for 10 years to get to a level where he pays taxes now rather than is a net receiver... why should he have to pay for the guy who elected to go to college?

The reason you can forgive PPP loans is because congress voted for that allocation of funds. Had pResident Briben (patent pending, patent pending, patent pending!) wanted to pay for these things he should have had congress pass something when he had control of both houses. The SCOTUS simply said he had no authority to just pay for things without congress allocating the money or specifying that he had that power in the law.

To me this is like democrats only wishing for changes in the immigration laws only when republicans have control of one or both of the houses. You had control, neither of these were a priority for you when you had control of both houses but "suddenly" it becomes the talking point priority for the words that spill out of your mouths when republicans have control of one or both of the houses of congress.

Somebody pays for someone else all the time. It's very likely that I pay more than most who post here. Is it fair that I have to pick up part of THEIR tab? We are a society, and society is no place for hyper-individualism.

I agree, I posted the article because I was banned from Biden’s thread and wanted to reply.

The Republicans aren’t interested in helping the 99%.
More people would have been paying for student loans than were receiving student loans. You are welcome to just volunteer to pay someone's loan. I bet you could call the University of Houston finance department and they would find a worthy student for you.

HAVE CONGRESS PASS A LAW DUMBASS.

That happens every day in the country.

All I did was state reality. Loan relief would have helped the economy. It still might.

Loan forgiveness would cost more than it would add to the economy. It would also make the lazy lazier.

Bailing people out for bad behavior is wrong. Congress made a big deal out of businesses too big to fail then does nothing to stop them from becoming too big to fail.

It's a lot of money that would continue to be fill the pockets of everyone but the American taxpayers.

FWIW, I was against the big money give away to the families directly impacted by 9/11. Feel good measures almost always set bad precedents.

actually we didn't bail out banks, Wall Street and PPP loans by executive order either.....

Short sighted and stupid decision. The next Congress, which will be fully controlled by Democrats, will pass student loan forgiveness. It would be a huge boost to slowing economy. But this is more about ideology than practicality.

two years ago the Congress was fully controlled by Demmycrats and didn't pass it.......

I agree. This becomes an political issue that will benefit the Dems in the next election. Not that they needed any more, but they won't look a gift horse in the mouth.

At this point, blaming SCOTUS translates directly to blaming Donald J. Trump. And Trump is dumb enough to brag about it. How did this dude stay out of jail and in business for this long? It's beyond me. He appears to have the intellect of a fifth grader. And that is not hyperbole.

I find it fascinating that you believe these kids with a college education (which they didn't pay for) are so stupid they won't realize the demmycrats didn't pass debt relief when they controlled the House, Senate and WH.......
