”Jack Smith’s Backup Option”

“Even before last Thursday’s indictment in United States v. Donald Trump, public speculation swirled about whether the former president had taken classified documents not just to Mar-a-Lago but also to his residence and golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. The indictment answered that question with a bang while presenting a new puzzle about why Trump isn’t facing even steeper charges.”

“According to the Justice Department and a taped recording of the former president, Trump took classified records from Mar-a-Lago to Bedminster, where he showed off the contents of such records to others. The indictment alleges that Trump showed a map to a political ally and also showed a writer and a publisher a secret military plan to attack Iran. These two episodes were arguably the most egregious allegations of criminal wrongdoing mentioned in the indictment; they allege not just the improper retention of our nation’s most highly classified information, but the intentional communication of such information.”

“But these two allegations raise a question: Why did Special Counsel Jack Smith charge Trump with illegal retention of classified documents but not with dissemination of such materials? And is that decision final, or could dissemination charges still be in the works?”

“The Miami indictment conspicuously excludes many facts surrounding Trump’s actions in Bedminster: what boxes were taken there, what they contained, how they were kept at the golf club. This silence suggests that there might be more to come from the famously hard-charging Smith”

Given that Trump’s army of attorneys postpone, delay, and appeal everything and anything, which obviously Trump’s strategy to push it all past 2024, if his Judge aids him will Smith file more charges against Trump in New Jersey?

Dude

He’s being charged with lying about them to keep them

Not for having them

Read the indictment

I know what the charge is dude. I also know a president has up to 12 years to decide what's a private record and what's a presidential record. BTW didn't they also throw an espionage violation at him too? LMBO

Republicans are now the party that defends storing state secrets in a bathroom next to the toilet.

The Republican Party has become a pathetic shadow of what at one time was a reasonable, decent political party.

It is a disgusting mess...and there seems to be no path toward sanity. Every sane member of it should abandon it now.

Not when the archives ask for specific documents back due to national security concerns

He lied and lied about having them

And shuffled them all over his hotel without one concern for what they contained for months while he lied so he could keep them

NUCLEAR SECRETS

HES GOING TO DIE IN PRISON YOU CULT WHORE

A Presidential record and a top secret national security document which describes US military strategy and intelligence data, are two different things.

Trump obviously had a use for these documents and we can only wonder what he did with the ones which have not been recovered.

Who got ahold of them?

It’s not top secret if Trump says it isn’t

Nothing will come of this

You're wondering is useless.

Probably the same people who got ahold of the ones in Brandon's office and garage.

A former president cannot go to jail, it’s a national security risk

They can put him in his own prison by himself.

Make him pay for the construction costs.

Put his name on it...

If the orange clown/buffoon gets back into the white-house, hell hath no fury like a Donald scorned?!! He has been publicly humiliated and he will be out for vengeance too against all who slighted him?!! Revenge will be the order of day and if you think Trump's last DOJ was weaponize, it will be far worse this time around?!!

Nonsense.

There is an involved process for declassifying documents which requires other officials from various departments of the govt to sign off on it.

Unlike what that lying, con man grifter says, it is not simply a matter of....

There were never classified documents in the office or garage of anyone named Brandon.

The ones Biden had were ancient, low level and not pertinent to national security.

The ones Pence had were probably not as old and outdated as the ones Biden had, but did not contain highly classified, top secret national security data either.

What Trump got busted for was on a whole other level of bad.

Nobody outside the extremist right is buying these weak attempts to defend the criminal.

Poor anchovies, why would Smith need a "back up option"? I have been told by a number of you moonbats that this was it. Trump will spend the rest of his life in jail.

No, it’s not, he can be kept in solitary confinement and he stopped receiving classified briefings on 01/21/21

Trump is entitled to secret service protection for his life, how is a prison going to get around that?

He could never be handcuffed or forced to follow a routine

It would be a nightmare for any prison

Trumps security would always override prison rules
