Unfortunately I don't think racism will die out, it's part of the human condition. Plenty of people have traveled to far more places around the globe than I but from my experiences travelling I've heard about racism in each country I've visited. It is in no way exclusive to the U.S.

Hopefully each generation becomes more open minded but racism and discrimination will always be around and will likely just manifest itself in different ways.

I don't associate Racism with the human condition as much as I do Prejudice! In my personal unprofessional belief, I believe the difference between inherent natural born Prejudices in comparison to Racism, is like the difference between day and night- Two distinctly different things.

I'll just use a couple of examples to try and better explain what I mean by a prejudice!

An infant may feel more comfortable being picked up by it's own parents over a stranger.

A person my desire being married to someone of their own race rather than another race.

A person may feel more comfortable walking through a neighborhood mostly made up of their own race, other than one that is mostly comprised of other races of people.

I am sure you can come up with some other examples of what I mean by natural instinctive prejudices.

I just do not believe that these fears or personal preferences are based on racism- but more related to prejudice!

I totally get what you are saying and agree on your examples.

Maybe I was thinking more of the term racism. There’s the dictionary definition, laid out in your example, and then how we use the word IRL.

For example, the NFL puts the slogan ‘end racism’ in their end zones. Seems a worthy goal but the way we use the word it would be impossible because we call so many things racist. Could go into the weeds on that but that’s more where I’m coming from

I'll share an anecdotal story. I have a (black) buddy I grew up playing ball with (he ended up playing for Arizona State and played in the NCAA Tournament one year). Interesting in that he's a pretty sharp guy but is a garbage man. (He posts some funny *ss stories on Facebook about his work and what he encounters.) He doesn't post a lot about politics but when he does it's pretty clear he's not a right-winger.

He posted this today:

"Took the day off work to go see my little big girl get clapped out at her last day of elementary school. The world is yours (her name)."

That's exactly what I'm talking about. He's not promising her riches nor saying success is guaranteed but he's god d*mn right, the world is hers. Yes there is racism and yes she will face adversity but why tell a kid anything else at that age? I know the response from someone "I tell my kid they won't amount to much because I'm just keeping it real". I mean, ok. Just a self fulfilling prophecy, especially telling a young black kid at a young age that outside forces will stop them from achieving their dreams so don't even bother having them - aka you have no agency over your future.

That's sad to me.
