Russian casualties now exceed 200k

I confess to enjoying seeing the demise of the former Soviet Army. Still, it's a shock to see how badly Putin and his cronies gutted their own army and keep sending it to be slaughtered in Ukraine.

This war has shown the world that the 20+ years of Putin rule has been an utter failure for Russia and its people.
It'll take decades for Russia to recover after Putin is gone.

Greed and authoritarianism have brought Russia to where its at today.

Democracy and a free society must be earned. It can't be given. The US have found this out repeatedly with lofty ideas of "nation building", most of which have been failures.

"Nation building", taking a Third World country and turning it into a First World country, is much different than "Nation Rebuilding" as the US did with Germany and Japan following WWII.

We owe a lot to the fact that the North American Atlantic seaboard was colonized by the English, and we inherited from the English tradition the ideas of limited government, individual rights, and civil participation in government.

All of which can be traced to the Greeks. :)

Agreed. A major reason, if not the main reason, why North American is more prosperous than South America was the difference in Northwestern European ideology, especially that from the land of John Locke, versus that of the Spanish Empire.

The democratic principles favored in the north emphasized individual liberty, freedom of thought and equality in the law. The Spanish Empire was more akin life under Roman Ceasars.

Isn't that where the Russian word Czar comes from? LOL
