Daniel Penny ‘should be celebrated’ for actions leading up to fatal chokehold of Jordan Neely: lawyer By Katherine Donlevy

May 12, 2023 9:08pm Updated More On: jordan neely In rush to charge Daniel Penny, Bragg again showed he’s on Team Crime CUNY students boo and turn back on Mayor Adams when he brings up cop past at graduation Alvin Bragg didn’t trust a grand jury to do his bidding in Daniel Penny subway chokehold case Lawyers for Jordan Neely’s family say Daniel Penny deserves murder charges, not just manslaughter Daniel Penny, the Marine who placed Jordan Neely in a fatal chokehold, “should be celebrated” for jumping into action “for the benefit of others” on the crowded Manhattan subway, his lawyer asserted in a new radio interview. Thomas Kenniff made the remarks Friday night on WABC’s ‘Cats & Cosby’ show hours after Penny, 24, was arraigned on a charge of second-degree manslaughter.

“He didn’t enter the subway seeking to harm anyone. He didn’t attack anyone,” Kenniff said of Penny. “He was really putting himself in harm’s way for the benefit of others. He shouldn’t be pilloried for that. He should be celebrated,” Kenniff told hosts John Catsimatidis and Rita Cosby. Penny placed Neely into a deadly chokehold aboard an uptown F train on May 1 after the homeless man was observed “making threats and scaring passengers,” prosecutors said. “The reality is that there is not a single living, breathing New Yorker — particularly anyone who rides the subways — who can’t relate to exactly the sort of situation that my client and the other passengers on the train were confronted with,” Kenniff said in Friday’s radio interview. “In no way shape or form [did Penny] seek to demean the victim in this case,” he added.

Poor Earl.

That he didn't attack anyone only means he was stopped before he could given his history of violent crimes.

That has a chilling effect (your words) of bringing in the Minority Report justice.

I honestly think we would have had to be there to know what happened.
The jury will see all of the evidence.
Most of us won't.
Even after a verdict is rendered, most of us won't ever know if it was a just one or net.

No matter. We'll all have opinions anyway.

He probably will be Kyle'd.

No death of an American should be celebrated. The fact Americans like Jordan Neely are ignored in society until someone kills him is extremely sad.

He’s had 42 arrests since 2013…that’s ten years ago for the Trumpers  Tell me he wasn’t mentally ill and abandoned by New York City and state?

That's a good point. It does tell us that he wasn't really mentally ill, at least not for the most time.

Chronically homeless is not a good life choice. What is deemed to be mentally illl enough to become incapacitating is not the same way the law views it.

I strongly suspect Jordan Neely didn’t freely chose his lifestyle being of sound mind and body….not that either major political party gives shit.

DeSantis was cheering the killer, one of the families should call DeSantis in for a 'sit down'

Or, possibly, he was cheering someone who took action to protect people from someone threatening them, and maybe some of the families of the folks he protected should call you in for a 'sit down'?

I'm not saying that we know, certainly not that I know as I don't I await the verdict. And it may be he jumped the gun. But pretending you know the outcome before even a minute of trial is just pretense.

The guy that was threatening people FUCKED AROUND AND FOUND OUT. Simple as that.

From what I have heard and read it seems that way, but we do not have all the evidence. If this is the case I am certain even a NYC Jury will acquit him.
