Thanks!
That was the first time I listened to any of his stuff.
Here he takes Warren Levon's "Werewolves Of London" which is a song my band covers, and he wrote his own lyrics over it about his having fun in Michigan on a summer day at the lake, and tributes Lynard Skynard's Sweet Home ALabama, another song by band covers, in his lyrics. Both Home Sweet Alabama and Werewolves of London uses the same 3 chords, so that worked out rather nice transposing one for the other back and forth through the song. Do the Kid het's a little credit her for the concept of doing that.
He seemed to bring it all together, and pulled it off OK. His vocals didn't really have to have much of a workout though, as it was all sung in a very easy tenor laid-back range, so it gave it that Summer Time feeling we all miss during those LONG COLD LONELY WINTERS. The song was boosted by the good lead guitar that broke in on the instrumental part.
In other words, he didn't butcher either song, but when you hear Werewolves Of London, what really made that song work best were the Werewolf's Ahh-ooo's that are wailed throughout the original song, and they were sorely missed in this parody or ditty version of the song. Surely he could have found a way to work those in somehow, as if to show a little tribute to Warren Levon's version of the song that he stole the melody from. And I also believe that when you are a stand up vocalist, and do not have to be burdened with playing an instrument at the same time, a vocalist should challenge his vocals somewhat more than he attempted to do. So his vocals didn't really stand out and fell a little flat for my taste.
It mostly inspired me to go and listen to Warren Levon's original and reminds me just how much I love his song.
Let's give the KID a C+ for this one!
