A.I. at Defcon 2 - Tech leaders warn DANGER is imminent - ask for 6 month pause

I was just trying to have a little fun with the movie, Frank.

The 1951 Cold War era Klaatu was about peace. The 2008 Klaatu was about the environment. Both Klaatus figured out they were wrong and changed their minds about destroying the human race.

They both needed a Gort to wipe us out.
Same with governments.
Now might be our last chance to ensure they don't get one.

Yeah. During the second movie, I was hoping Klaatu would not change his mind. Fact is, if Klaatu made a mistake in that movie, the mistake was changing his mind.

The picture, as I see it (I acknowledge I may be wrong), is that we have evolved technically to the point where we can easily annihilate ourselves and even destroy our planet...BEFORE we have evolved philosophically to the point where we definitely will not do so.

MAYBE every (or most) evolving lifeforms throughout our galaxy takes the same track. MAYBE all evolving lifeforms eventually come to this point and destroys itself and its planet. MAYBE we are the most technically evolved lifeform anywhere in our galaxy...that evolvinjg past this point is close to impossible.

Some of us have already evolved past that point. The problem lies in electing them- as too many haven't.

A shoutout to Kurt Vonnegut's Tralfamadorians.

If nuclear war, volcanoes, or meteor/comet strikes don't get us first, eventually, in about a billion years the Sun will become a Red giant and destroy all life.

Humans getting off the planet is the only real chance to preserve life beyond that.

We're too far out, way too far from any practical human habitation.

Best spend the ..er....miserly billion years we have left learning how to protect the one planet that we have . There is nowhere to go- and nobody is coming to rescue us .
It's all in the mind, anyway. Meditation is where it's at- not ' out there '.

Hopefully mankind can save the planet by restoring the Carbon in the ground (sequestered by Life) back to the atmosphere from which it originated.

Well, we got a billion years to make or find another home. I am more optimistic about our chances than you are.

We are star-stuff.........and cannot be destroyed. In the immensity of Time- everything can be reborn.

Kyle Reese : "One possible future. From your point of view."

Currently, mainstream science envisions a Cold death for the Universe, or its death in the Big Rip where even atoms are torn apart by the expansion of Dark Energy.

Perhaps there's an insatiable Universal Will for Change.

It "looks like" the current trend of expansion will continue forever, but science admits it can not be proven, that there are too many unknowns. I choose to believe in a Universe that lives, dies, and is reborn over and over again.

That's certainly the sanest believe, the most comforting. It's the same on earth, in microcosm. Why not believe in reincarnation, even instant reincarnation- wherein one's loved-ones are reborn . The pain of ' loss' is greatly diminished and ' absence ' replaces the permanence of ' death '. It seems rather wasteful of the universal 'creator ' to simply turn everything off.

Sanest? ... I guess contradicting the overwhelming opinion of the majority of physicists and cosmologists, the scientific experts, .. is the right thing to do sometimes.

Do you know what AI is? Especially an AI large language model. It just tell us stuff that is available through the internet and other information it is given.

If you give it all medical and biological data ever written, A.I. will draw its own conclusion.

Justice Jackson claimed she didn't know what a woman is because she didn't have a biology degree.

Well, A.I. will have the equivalent of a biology degree. :dunno:
