Mass shootings = symptoms of a much worse problem

had guns in the 80s no school shootings....so what changed? not the gun it didnt change

20 guns were in my HS parking lot at any given time in 1980

If You've Heard of Someone, Don't Listen to Him

What changed is that kids aren't allowed to pick on creepy weirdos. No self-appointed authority on either side tells us that bullying can have socially useful outcomes. We're headed for the pits if we don't start rejecting all influencers, who only want to place us beneath them.

I can hardly believe she's six already. IIRC you were just bringing her home from the hospital in a USC onesie! Things must have been pretty tense around your house during the divisional playoffs, you and the princess v. your poor wife.

You're right about the benefit of girls playing sports and I hope the two of you have lots of good times sharing your interests.

Wow, great memory!! :) (And yes, the USC 'brainwashing' has continued since birth. LOL.)

Since you're a NFL (Steelers) fan I thought you would appreciate the family battles story over who she roots for.

I always joke with my wife that my favorite three syllable word is scho-lar-ship. My philosophy is I want to expose her to various sports and then what ever she likes or pursues is up to her. I'll support her. But the reality is college admissions is only getting more competitive, and expensive. And there are lots of opportunities for women to earn scholarships (or even just help with admissions) through athletics. Like I said, I won't push her to do anything but I'll be sitting there with my fingers crossed that she's good enough one day for it to help her (and my pocketbook). Haha.

You would do better if you absorbed what you read. The post quoted you, then said "more exactly a country". English is a Western European language, which does not mean there are not other Western European languages. Europeans also dumped monarchy and slavery long ago. Our first universities, which remain, were modeled precisely on English academies. In short, like Western Europe our culture has been shaped by the Reformation and The Enlightenment to a degree that distinguishes us from other cultures.

A flounderer and flopper is someone who tries much too hard, as you're doing, falling over himself.

So you now you argue that Britain defines western culture. :palm: The USA has a unique culture.

Schools are the same everywhere. They consist of teachers and students. :palm:

Germany did not dump traditional monarchy until the end of WW1. Hitler revived a modernized form of the German monarchy he fought for, ... and restored monarchist titles to any "former" aristocrat that joined the National Socialist German workers party.

The fact remains that it is proper to compare gun ownership to murder rates ... in ANY country. Not just your favorite Aryan Nations.

As I said you would better if you absorbed what you read. The post did not say "Britain defines western culture", etc.

On the other hand, maybe you did absorb it but made up your crap anyway.
