The following remarks/observations/facts etc. come mostly from Leslie Stein's book 'The Undermining of Western Civilization', with a few comments of my own.
Stein marks the LEFT's Marxist assault on America in particular, dating all the way back to the 1960s.
Stein documents what we now call "wokism," beginning in the 1960s with radical Marxist Student groups on college campuses around the U.S., including the SDS or Students for Democratic Society, the Black Panthers, and the Weather Underground organization--groups that doubled as terrorist organizations who waged war with the police and blew up federal buildings, all in an attempt to foment a communist revolution. They, collectively, were known as the "New Left."
The 1960s LEFT like today's LEFT captured our Institutions of Higher Learning by bullying, harassing, threatening, and committing violence against anyone who posed a threat to their ideology (namely, prominent conservative speakers) and installed pseudo-intellectuals in positions of authority on college campuses, where they were driven by left-wing politics, like gender studies and black studies.
Stein then reinforces and promulgates the neo-Marxist narratives with perhaps the most egregious example of pseudo-intellectualism: The 1619 Project, a piece of revisionist history so false and insane that it compelled American historians to denounce it. Stein also points out that massive corporations like Black Rock have uber-woke CEOs.
Stein describes the Marxist origins of woke concepts like Critical Race Theory, postcolonialism, Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and Islamic groups (Obama's favorites) on the LEFT that demonstrate a dangerous, pernicious, and destructive nature. The 2020 Summer of Love will attest to the LEFT's anti American Marxist destruction.
A book like this helps one to see the "bigger picture" of the Marxist revolution going on in today's culture.

BTW, at the height of the Marxist Revolution, I was 19 years old and enjoying a day of fun at Boston Commons Park when a bunch of long-haired drug-induced weirdos approached and asked me if I wanted to join their LEFTIST (SDS) or Students for Democratic Society--even offering a joint and or an LSD pill. I told them
that I wouldn't partake in their LSD trip, but instead I chose to fight for our country by signing up for the Army to do a tour in the Nam.
