Trains

Name one nation where the passenger rail system is profitable.
Why must everything be profitable? Especially, when it serves the public. Rail systems in Europe are becoming more popular.

“High-speed rail systems throughout the world have demonstrated that service revenues can cover operating costs without public subsidies to support operations. High-speed rail systems in Asia and Europe consistently attract and sustain strong ridership numbers and operating profits.Jan 11, 2022

High-Speed Rail: An International Success Story

Show me where in those links that high speed rail is profitable...

Interesting. They have been successful and booming. Clean and practically slum and crime free. Everyone is enjoying successes and profits.

Are you a troll? Be honest.

No, they've grown on the Socialist use of taxpayer money and endless massive subsidies fed by taxation. They have never turned anything close to a profit and never will.

Okay I lean towards you being a troll.

Is it your contention that corporations and politicians here in America are greedy? If so, I agree with you.

No, it is my contention that government operated mass transit systems are inefficient, poorly managed, and massively unprofitable.

No, they don't, and that's at urban densities on the order of 10 to 30 times that of any American city.
Okay, you show that they aren’t profitable.

Is Tokyo Subway profitable?

Yes, it's true and it's been true since 1987. It also runs at a profit. Now to be fair, it was the Japanese government that was responsible for this genius move. It set up the private companies that run the subway systems in the mega city and then left them mostly alone.

Copied wrong part of article, watching KU beat TCU

[h=1]Do Japanese trains make money?[/h]Since launching in 1964, the bullet trains have proved to be remarkably safe, resilient and lucrative: Not only do many of the lines turn a healthy profit, but Shinkansen technology, including the software that supports the trains' famous punctuality, is a valuable Japanese export.

Okay. Tokyo has an urban density of about 11,500 people per square mile. New York City has a density of about 4400. The problem in the US is that cities are so low density, so spread out, that public transit, in whatever form isn't economically viable.

Here in Phoenix they're putting in and expanding a light rail system. It'd be cheaper to buy regular riders of it a brand new Prius, or even a Tesla, and get rid of the rail system entirely.

True. However, as my OP has shown, those countries have been doing just fine.

Socialism isn't a viable answer. Eventually the money runs out. The better solution is one that is profitable, and that isn't mass transit until you get to absurdly high levels of urban density which is why the Left wants to force everyone into high-rise apartments.

Train derailments and wrecks are profitable and ecologically sound? It takes a lot of money to fix the mess and there are always lawsuits.

Does that sound profitable to you?
