Wanted to thank you. It's been a minute since I've been called whitey but it also brought good memories. Coming up, I could ball a little. Jordan wasn't going to lose any sleep worrying about me but on a local level I could hold my own. Now I know we used to always hear about New York City playground legends and Rucker Park but Oakland had its own set of ballers. Me and a couple of friends would often play at different public courts on the weekend. Many times I was the only white guy there. The playgrounds have their own rules and own culture and if you can't hang then get the F out. Part of that culture was trash talk and too many times to count I was told "fvck you whitey" or "get the fvck out of here whitey". It was all part of the game and being tested.

But your use of it here TBH doesn't have the same kick. I'm not explaining anything to minorities but you also can't tell me where I'm wrong.

Question for you L.R. Since you have Native American blood in you, is there a particular set of names that you can go by that allow you to be deemed authentic?

I grabbed a drink last week with a buddy who happens to be LatinX, his name is Danny (Daniel). In hindsight, seems pretty white to me. A little more authentic might be Javier, Jose, Miguel etc.

Same with black names. I had classmates/friends Tyrone, Kareem, Kason, Lamar, Shaniqua, Maisha, Tamika etc. I also had black classmates named Mike and Michelle. Again, in hindsight, seems pretty inauthentic huh?

Where I live there are several of us mongrels. There are also a few "full bloods" as well. The two most Native Amercian families, two of a few who spoke Choctaw in their household and English at school had kids named Danny (Daniel actually, which was also the dad's name), Brenda, Jimmy Ray (Ray-Ray) and Thomas and Lee, Victor, Stanley and Margaret. There are no "Dances With Wolves" Native Americans left here. Even before my generation (see the afore mentioned dad's name) they/we had been Americanized. Our last three chiefs have been named Hollis, Gregory and now Gary. Before them even, our chief in 1948 was named Harry.

Yah, it's about the same here. I do know one Chetnehea (Little Turtle) but he goes by Chet. Most folks are like me. Americanized, and some look even whiter than I do. LOL. I may be half, but I tend to pass as a "swarthy" white guy if I am hanging with white folks.
