house passes health care bill 220-215

BTW,, whats the likely scenario with this. Im assuming the Senate will create there own version of this bill that can pass then they will send back to the house? I do realize this version is DOA in the senate.

All I know is we pay a shit load of tax if you add it all up and we get jack shit in return. Comparatively Ireland (since i just visited) pays about the same amount of taxes (after u add in all our local and property taxes) and get free health care and free college not to mention way less working.

Sounds like liberal heaven. Why aren't you voting for Bernie Sanders, Dennis Kucinich, or the most liberal politicians you can possibly find, if that's what you're into? I'm into that sh*t too.

FYI: Ireland doesn't pay for a massive military industrial complex, Ireland doesn't pay for wars on far flung continents, and Ireland doesn't spend one-third of it's budget on it's Defense Ministry.

Well, we certainly disagree on that.

I think if people work hard, they have a right to decent healthcare. At the very least, people who work hard & actually pay for a plan, should have the right to decent healthcare, and to not expect a denial of coverage based on a quota.

If you can be ruined when you simply get sick or injured, I don't find that acceptable.

We agree that people who work hard should have a right to decent health care. And those that pay for a plan should have access to the care they paid for.

However, that doesn't mean you are guaranteed regardless of what you pay for to have everything the same as those who do pay.

And we have a different definition of "ruined"... Those who can work and will work can have a temporary setback and sometimes have to work hard after a reset, but that is not the same thing as "ruined"...

And for that they have a per capita debt of over $500,000 per person.

Yeah and how much of Ireland's GDP goes to support a standing military? Our governments number one priortity is the protection of it's people. Making health care work is definitely a matter of concern....but undermining the free market and taxing the people is not the only, nor imo, the best solution.

Yeah, and just like every other nation that doesn't, they depend on those that do.

Yet they still have a massive debt per capita, way, way over their GDP.

In countries with universal health care, people don't need to beg for donations to cover care that should be provided under their insurance policies.

"I'm a Canadian, and I've had hernia surgery, a rotator cuff repair, and four MRIs. My entire family has received care for some very complicated conditions. The cost to me for all of this? Nothing. I hear about how Americans come together in times of trouble, but the one thing Americans have not come together on is sharing the cost of health care. I was in a gas station in International Falls, Minnesota, and there was a donation jar for an 11-year-old girl with stage III cancer and no insurance. That would never happen in Canada. Do not be afraid of health-care reform."

Reader's Digest November 2009 Pages 10-11.

Yeah, but it's time to revisit our national priorities. We're not in a cold war, anymore. The military budget is bloated & characterized more by waste than by effective investment in protecting the country. It can be slashed; there isn't much justification for its current level, anymore...

And we could cover that with catastrophic coverage without creating a massive government entity and increasing taxes or debt. Nobody is afraid of reform, they aren't even "afraid" of government, they are simply aware that the government is not always the best option.

Very often that child would wind up coming down here from Canada for care for her cancer. There is a reason for that.

This is another realm of agreement, not only isn't it needed, but it is time for other nations to begin relying on their own resources rather than ours. We are not the international military welfare program, even if that is what our military is so often used for.

It's a bummer, because I don't hear a lot of serious talk about this at the national level. Even with a "leftie" admin and Congress, I haven't seen any major moves to address this, unless I slept through it...

Eisenhower warned that the MIC would do this to us, and like any addiction it will take major intervention to get our government off of this teat...

agreed. I want free healthcare and college for the amount of tax im paying.

I'd prefer not to pay as much so I could afford my own, thankyouverymuch...

note that i said for what im paying already. I dont want an increase either. solution.. take as much away from military spending as we need for it.

That is because too many of the Reps/Senators have defense contractors in their districts/states. No way are they going to be the ones to 'cost' their districts all those jobs. This is the same reason we are not likely to ever see a change in the tax code to a simplified and more efficient flat tax with a standard deduction. Heaven forbid people actually have to retrain for another field of work. For that... we get the continued mess we have today.

Anyone remember the last time a President tried to slim down the military?

Remember Clinton ordering base closings across the nation?

Then remember what Republicans did to him?

They EXCORIATED him for trying to reduce the size of our military.

Maybe that's why no one else has tried?
