Closest I got to LSD was ecstasy. The more I used it the less effect it had . The first time was the best! Then it tapered off.

That is fine, but why is it illegal for others.
I was never a fan of modern chemistry, but I did down a glass or two of Crown Royal and did a toke or two off a joint in my younger days.
Look no further than Syd Barret. Although he also had mental issues, the LSD use cost him a soaring career with Pink Floyd. That, and I
guess chasing stationary objects and watching walls breathe didn't appeal to me.

I do like me a mild cannabis or sativa high every now and then though- and for me, it's gotta' be Gummy Bears or brownies now, as I quit smoking years ago.
The reason why I never did any other mind-altering drugs- or just drugs in general, is I was afraid I might enjoy them a little too much.

LSD is even more pronounced - If you use it on night one - on night 2 you would need to increase your dose 5X to come even close to the same feeling.
but honestly - with each one being a 6+ hour commitment a few times a year seems most sensible
When your mind is no longer your own you can be far more dangerous to yourself and others. Hallucinations are more dangerous than being buzzed.

It's been decriminalized in Oregon. It's legal to possess small amounts. I'll never try processed LSD, but someday, I will try mushrooms - the psychotropic kind.

It is on the schedule 1 list. So it is illegal because lawmakers have determined that it has no valid medical use and has a high risk of abuse. I believe that this drug reached that list because of the risks of flashbacks where users who have stopped taking the drug experience effects of the drug even though they no longer take it and have not for sometimes very long periods of time. It has also been related (by the same legislators) to psychoses, like schizophrenia and/or severe depression. Users have also had accidents, etc. under the influence endangering others.
That is the "why" of it, though I'd love to hear some statistics and read some studies regarding the dangers. For instance, how often might somebody have a flashback? Is that still an issue? How often do they cause accidents in comparison to alcohol users? Things like that.
